Anethole reduces oxidative stress and improves in vitro survival and activation of primordial follicles BJMBR
Sá,N.A.R.; Bruno,J.B.; Guerreiro,D.D.; Cadenas,J.; Alves,B.G.; Cibin,F.W.S.; Leal-Cardoso,J.H.; Gastal,E.L.; Figueiredo,J.R..
Primordial follicles, the main source of oocytes in the ovary, are essential for the maintenance of fertility throughout the reproductive lifespan. To the best of our knowledge, there are no reports describing the effect of anethole on this important ovarian follicle population. The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of different anethole concentrations on the in vitro culture of caprine preantral follicles enclosed in ovarian tissue. Randomized ovarian fragments were fixed immediately (non-cultured treatment) or distributed into five treatments: α-MEM+ (cultured control), α-MEM+ supplemented with ascorbic acid at 50 μg/mL (AA), and anethole at 30 (AN30), 300 (AN300), or 2000 µg/mL (AN2000), for 1 or 7 days. After 7 days of culture, a...

Goat ovarian follicles express different levels of mRNA for inhibin-ßA subunit and activin-A stimulates secondary follicle growth in vitro Ciência Rural
Leitão,Cintia Camurça Fernandes; Costa,José Jackson Nascimento; Saraiva,Márcia Viviane Alves; Araújo,Valdevane Rocha; Figueiredo,José Ricardo; Hurk,Robert van den; Silva,José Roberto Viana.
This study investigated the levels of messenger ribonucleic acids (mRNA) for inhibin-ßA subunit in goat primordial, primary and secondary follicles, as well as in cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs) and mural granulosa / theca cells of antral follicles. The effects of activin-A (100ng mL-1) and/or follicle stimulating hormone (FSH, 50ng mL-1) on growth and expression of mRNA for activin-A and FSH receptor (FSH-R) in secondary follicles cultured for six days were evaluated. The data showed that the expression of inhibin-ßA is lower in secondary follicles than in primary follicles and is higher in large antral follicles than in small antral follicles. After culture, activin-A and/or FSH promoted growth of secondary follicles, while FSH increased the levels of...

Oliveira,Rosângela C.; Yamaguti,Maurício; Marques,Lucas M.; Buzinhani,Melissa; Rizzo,Huber; Meira-Junior,Enoch Brandão de Souza; Guimarães,Ana Márcia S.; Gregory,Lilian; Timenetsky,Jorge.
Abstract Ovine/caprine ureaplasmas have not yet been assigned a species designation, but they have been classified into nine serotypes. Herein ureaplasmas were searched for in 120 samples of vulvo vaginal mucous from sheep and 98 samples from goats at 17 farms. In addition, semen samples were collected from 11 sheep and 23 goats. The recovered ureaplasma were from sheep and goats from animals without any reproductive disorder symptoms, but not all animals presented positive cultures. In sheep, 17 (68%) cultures of vulvovaginal mucous were positive for ureaplasma and 11 (27%) samples of semen presented positive cultures in animals with clinical signs of orchitis, balanoposthitis or low sperm motility. In goats four ureaplasma isolates were obtained from...

Possibility of vertical transmission of caprine arthritis-encephalitis virus in neonate kids Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Lara,M.C.C.S.H.; Birgel Junior,E.H.; Birgel,E.H..

Validation of a PCR Assay for Chlamydophila abortus rRNA gene detection in a murine model BABT
Silva-Zacarias,Francielle Gibson da; Alfieri,Amauri Alcindo; Spohr,Kledir Anderson Hofstaetter; Lima,Bruna Azevedo de Carvalho; Negrão,Fábio Juliano; Lunardi,Michele; Freitas,Julio Cesar de.
Chlamydophila abortus (C. abortus) is associated with reproductive problems in cattle, sheep, and goats. Diagnosis of C. abortus using embryonated chicken eggs or immortalized cell lines has a very low sensitivity. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays have been used to detect C. abortus infection in clinical specimens and organ fragments, such as placenta, fetal organs, vaginal secretions, and semen. The aim of this study was to develop a PCR assay for the amplification of an 856-bp fragment of the rRNA gene of the Chlamydiaceae family. The PCR assay was evaluated using organs from 15 mice experimentally infected with the S26/3 reference strain of C. abortus. The results of the rRNA PCR were compared to the results from another PCR system (Omp2 PCR) that...
