Approche ecophysiologigue et ultrastructurale de l'osmoregulation chez les crustaces decapodes ArchiMer

This paper deals mostly with recent physiological data on ion transport across the gill tissue and an attempt is made to correlate them with blood osmoregulation and ecological distribution in euryhaline decapods. A particular attention is paid to the gills of the fully euryhaline Chinese crab Eriocheir sinensis . Supporting this ecophysiological approach, there is an important ultrastructural analysis of the gill epithelium under various salinity conditions. The possible part played by the cuticle in ions movements is also considered.

Aspects ultrastructuraux de la biodegradation de l''ancienne cuticule de Carcinus maenas durant la periode preecdysiale ArchiMer

Ultrastructural observations of various integumental regions of the crab Carcinus maenas show an important biodegradation of the old sclerites during premolt. At the ecdysis, this biodegradation extends from the basis of the membranous layer up the upper third of the principal layer. The first biodegradation features are a disorganization followed by a complete disappearance of the microfibrils. Numerous ecdysial droplets and double membrane bounded microstructures probably take part in biodegradation processes.

Élevage de la palourde japonaise Ruditapes philippinarum dans le bassin d'Arcachon. Bilan des dix dernières années et perspectives de développement ArchiMer

Farming of the Japanese clam Ruditapes philippinarum took place for the first time in 1980 in the Arcachon basin. After an experimentation period of about ten years, a farming strategy, taking into consideration the distinctive features found in the bay, was able to emerge. For example, in order to fight against clam predators, crabs such as Carcinus maenas, and balistes such as Balistes capriscus, vertical protection coupled with prior ground gravelling, and laying of nets over the beds during the summer months, have become necessary. The best raising technique seems to rest on early spring planting of middle size spats (T5), after checking that no brown rings are visible. If clam growth seems to be better in oceanic zones, it looks similar in other areas...

Essais d'infestations expérimentales entre Crassostrea rhizophorae et Carcinus maenas ArchiMer

Following our aim of developing oyster culture in French Guyana and studying the different options available to increase a stock of new oyster species, we were lead to search for possible parasites in Crassostrea rhizophorae. These oysters from the French Guyanese coasts host some gregarine Nematopsis sp. spores, characterized by Comps, Grizel and Tige (1972). Through this work, we conducted some experimental infestation trials between Crassostrea rhizophorae spats parasited by these spores and the most common crab on metropolitan farms Carcinus maenas.

Transepithelial movements of Na super(+) and Cl super(-) were measured in isolated perfused gills of the shore-crab Carcinus maenas) at two different salinities. Posterior gills are shown to be the only ones able to generate net Na super(+) and Cl super(-) influxes counterbalancing the salt loss occurring when in dilute media.

Mise en place de l'epicuticule chez le crabe Carcinus maenas ArchiMer

The epicuticle of the crab Carcinus maenas consists in three distinct layers: the fibrous surface coat, the cuticulin layer and the inner epicuticle. Short segments of the cuticulin layer are first deposited at the top of dense plaques of the ectodermal cell membrane. Their assembling gives rise to a five-layered continuous structure of about 37 nm thick. Afterwards, the inner epicuticle is added inside close to the cuticulin layer but dense plaques are not concerned with the phenomenon. The deposition of the fibrous surface coat outside to the cuticulin layer takes place only during late postmolt stages (D2-D3). In mineralized cuticles, this typical epicuticle structure persists during all intermolt long.

Onderzoek naar het voorkomen van Portunion maenadis en Priapion fraissei (Isopoda: Epicaridea) in het Nederlandse kustgebied Naturalis

Investigation of large samples of Carcinus maenas and Liocarcinus holsatus from the southern part of the North Sea to decide the incidence of the parasites Portunion maenadis and Priapion fraissei, showed that none of the 2390 C. maenas studied were parasitised, and that 119 of 5514 Liocarcinus holsatus were parasitised by Priapion fraissei. From these data it is concluded that Portunion maenadis is absent, or at least very rare in Dutch coastal waters.

Particules virales de type Bacilovirus observees chez le crabe Carcinus maenas. ArchiMer

A new virus from the Crab Carcinus maenas has been found in the nuclei of conjunctive and blood cells. Its localization, morphology, size, morphogeny relate it to the Baculovirus group. By some aspects it appears to be related closer to the insect viruses from Oryctes rhinoceros, and to red mite viruses from Panonychus ulmi and P.citri than to the nuclear polyhedrosis of the pink shrimp Penaeus duorarum.

The colleteric glands in Sacculinidae (Crustacea, Cirripedia, Rhizocephala): an ultrastructural study of ovisac secretion Naturalis

Ovisac secretion by the paired colleteric glands of Sacculina carcini and Heterosaccus dollfusi (Rhizocephala, Sacculinida) was documented and studied at the ultrastructural level. Preparatory to oviposition, the epithelium of each colleteric gland secretes one branched, elastic, transparent ovisac. The ovisac wall consists of a reticulated inner zone, secreted first, and a dense outer zone. After secretion, the ovisac detaches from most of the secretory epithelium but remains anchored proximally in the gland until oviposition ends. The exterior ovisac surface is predominantly smooth and impervious. Proximally, however, the surface is irregular and perforated. During oviposition the eggs enter the paired ovisacs, forcing the ovisacs through the ovipores...
