In this paper we present an extension of an automata approach proposed by S. Blower (1998) to describe the tuberculosis progression in a bi-dimensional space. In our extended model, the vaccination was included as an inhibitory variable in order to study its influence on the behavior of the tuberculosis spread. Our simulations showed that the earlier the vaccine is administered in the population, the lower the number of infected individuals, as expected for an in vivo system. However, our results also indicated that although the usual vaccination processes help reducing the strength of infection, the disease is not extinct, remaining the endemic state at low levels. A review of Multi-Agent Simulation Models in Agriculture AgEcon

Multi-Agent Simulation (MAS) models are intended to capture emergent properties of complex systems that are not amenable to equilibrium analysis. They are beginning to see some use for analysing agricultural systems. The paper reports on work in progress to create a MAS for specific sectors in New Zealand agriculture. One part of the paper focuses on options for modelling land and other resources such as water, labour and capital in this model, as well as markets for exchanging resources and commodities. A second part considers options for modelling agent heterogeneity, especially risk preferences of farmers, and the impacts on decision-making. Simulating the behavior of patients who leave a public hospital emergency department without being seen by a physician: a cellular automaton and agent-based framework BJMBR

The objective of this study was to develop an agent based modeling (ABM) framework to simulate the behavior of patients who leave a public hospital emergency department (ED) without being seen (LWBS). In doing so, the study complements computer modeling and cellular automata (CA) techniques to simulate the behavior of patients in an ED. After verifying and validating the model by comparing it with data from a real case study, the significance of four preventive policies including increasing number of triage nurses, fast-track treatment, increasing the waiting room capacity and reducing treatment time were investigated by utilizing ordinary least squares regression.
