Data are presented on the diet of Cory's Shearwater Calonectris diomedea borealis (Cory, 1881) resulting from stomach investigations based on 18 birds from Hierro (Canary Islands), 5 from Selvagem Grande (Selvagens or Salvage Islands), 2 from São Miguel and 1 from São Jorge (Azores), collected between 1977 and 1981. These data confirm the general idea that this shearwater feeds principally on fish and squid. The glandular stomachs of 9 birds from Hierro contained significant quantities of food, varying in wet weight from ca. 4-40 gm; in four cases more or less complete squids were present, all Ommastrephes bartrami (Le Sueur, 1821). Siete especies de cefalópodos de aguas profundas fueron identificadas entre el material colectado en cuatro cruceros exploratorios realizados durante 1998 y 1999, a lo largo del talud superior del Caribe colombiano, entre 200 y 500 m de profundidad. Semirossia tenera, S. equalis, Heteroteuthis dispar, Opisthoteuthis agassizii, Octopus burryi y Benthoctopus oregonae son registradas por primera vez para el área. S. tenera fue la especie más común, acumulando el 75% de la abundancia total. |

Cephalopods of the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and the Western Indian ocean off Somalia are studied. A preliminary annotated list is presented. This study was based on the examination of 381 specimens captured with a Rectangular Midwater Trawl (RMT8) during three cruises of the Netherlands Indian Ocean Programme. The taxa identified represent: 22 families, 35 genera and 56 species. Two species new to science are found. Systematic position and taxonomic re-evaluation in the Chiroteuthidae, Mastigoteuthidae and Octopodidae is briefly discussed. The present collections represent a valuable contribution to the species composition from the Western Indian Ocean and to cephalopod juvenile morphology. |

Abstract: Coastal ecosystems of northeastern Brazil have important biodiversity with regard to marine mollusks, which are insufficiently studied. Here we provide an inventory of mollusks from two sites in the estuary of the Paraíba River. Mollusks were collected in 2014 and 2016 on the coast and sandbanks located on the properties of Treze de Maio and Costinha de Santo Antônio. The malacofaunal survey identified 12 families, 20 genera and 21 species of bivalves, 17 families, 19 genera and 20 species of gastropods and one species of cephalopod. Le poulpe commun, Octopus vulgaris Cuvier, 1797 est une espèce clé dans l'économie des productions halieutiques au Sénégal, suite à une intrusion massive et une explosion démographique dans les eaux marines de ce pays, depuis les années 80. Pour expliquer le phénomène, on a estimé intéressant de connaître la place de l'espèce dans l'écosystème local par le biais de ses relations trophiques avec le milieu naturel. Au cours de prospections effectuées, de 1996 à 1998 inclus, sur le terrain et grâce à des séjours en mer, lors de campagnes chalutières, 459 O. vulgaris ont été récoltés. The reproductive system of female cephalopods includes a glandular system (oviduct glands and nidamental glands), which develops considerably during sexual maturation and which plays an important part in the formation of the different egg membranes. It is generally uncoloured. An exception are the nidamental glands in <i>Nautilus pompilius</i> which are composed of opaque yellowish or yellowish-green tissue (Ref. 1).
