Complete sequence and comparative analysis of the chloroplast genome of Plinia trunciflora Genet. Mol. Biol.
Eguiluz,Maria; Yuyama,Priscila Mary; Guzman,Frank; Rodrigues,Nureyev Ferreira; Margis,Rogerio.
Abstract Plinia trunciflora is a Brazilian native fruit tree from the Myrtaceae family, also known as jaboticaba. This species has great potential by its fruit production. Due to the high content of essential oils in their leaves and of anthocyanins in the fruits, there is also an increasing interest by the pharmaceutical industry. Nevertheless, there are few studies focusing on its molecular biology and genetic characterization. We herein report the complete chloroplast (cp) genome of P. trunciflora using high-throughput sequencing and compare it to other previously sequenced Myrtaceae genomes. The cp genome of P. trunciflora is 159,512 bp in size, comprising inverted repeats of 26,414 bp and single-copy regions of 88,097 bp (LSC) and 18,587 bp (SSC). The...

Phylogenetic position of the coral symbiont Ostreobium (Ulvophyceae) inferred from chloroplast genome data ArchiMer
Verbruggen, Heroen; Marcelino, Vanessa R.; Guiry, Michael D.; Cremen, Ma. Chiela M.; Jackson, Christopher J..
The green algal genus Ostreobium is an important symbiont of corals, playing roles in reef decalcification and providing photosynthates to the coral during bleaching events. A chloroplast genome of a cultured strain of Ostreobium was available, but low taxon sampling and Ostreobium's early-branching nature left doubt about its phylogenetic position. Here, we generate and describe chloroplast genomes from four Ostreobium strains as well as Avrainvillea mazei and Neomeris sp., strategically sampled earlybranching lineages in the Bryopsidales and Dasycladales respectively. At 80,584 bp, the chloroplast genome of Ostreobium sp. HV05042 is the most compact yet found in the Ulvophyceae. The Avrainvillea chloroplast genome is similar to 94 kbp and contains...

Restriction enzyme analysis of the chloroplast DNA of Phaseolus vulgaris L. vr. Rio Negro Ciência Rural
Echeverrigaray,Sergio; Carvalho,Maria Tereza Vitral; Derbyshire,Eric.
The chloroplast DNA of Phaseolus vulgaris L. vr. Rio Negro was isola ted from chloroplasts obtained by descontiuous sucrose gradient centrifugation. The restriction analysis with the enzymes HindIII, EcoRI and BamHI and their combination, allowed to identified more than 20 fragments of 18 to 0.65kb. The size of Phaseolus vulgaris L. cp DNA was estimated in 140kb with the presence of a repeat sequence of about 22kb.

RNA editing in the chloroplast of Asian Palmyra palm (Borassus flabellifer) Genet. Mol. Biol.
Sakulsathaporn,Arpakorn; Wonnapinij,Passorn; Suttangkakul,Anongpat; Apisitwanich,Somsak; Vuttipongchaikij,Supachai.
Abstract We have identified 46 RNA editing sites located in 20 chloroplast (cp) genes of Borassus flabellifer (Asian Palmyra palm), family Arecaceae, and tested these genes for supporting phylogenetic study among the commelinids. Among the 46 sites, 43 sites were found to cause amino acid alterations, which were predicted to increase the hydrophobicity and transmembrane regions of the proteins, and one site was to cause a premature stop codon. Analysis of these editing sites with data obtained from seed plants showed that a number of shared-editing sites depend on the evolutionary relationship between plants. We reconstructed a deep phylogenetic relationship among the commelinids using seven RNA edited genes that are orthologous among monocots. This tree...
