Chickpea, a lesser-studied grain legume, is being investigated due to its taxonomic proximity with the model legume genome Medicago truncatula and its ability to endure and grow in relatively low soil water contents making it a model legume crop for the study of agronomic response to drought stress. Abstract The Myrtaceae family has representatives spread worldwide, and Jabuticaba tree is an important species native to Brazil, which is grown not only in the backyards and domestic orchards, but also in commercial orchards, landscaping projects and in several tropical and subtropical countries. Abstract The lack of an efficient method of propagation in some cultivars makes it difficult to expand the blueberry culture. In Brazil, we still do not produce seedlings with needed quality and quantity to improve the sector. The cloning of the selected material through mini propagation and micro propagation is an alternative to increase the multiplication and rooting capacity of the blueberries. Allied to this, the use of cultivation system without soil for the development of cloned material facilitates the seedlings production. Abstract In Brazil, there is a growing interest in the crop of the olive tree, especially in those regions considered suitable for cultivation, where low temperatures occur between 8ºC and 10ºC in the period before flowering. The areas with these characteristics are located mainly in the South and Southeast regions of the country, characterized by a temperate climate in function of altitude, with the occurrence of natural vernalization. AbstractHyaluronidases are enzymes that mainly degrade hyaluronan, the major glycosaminoglycan of the interstitial matrix. They are involved in several pathological and physiological activities including fertilization, wound healing, embryogenesis, angiogenesis, diffusion of toxins and drugs, metastasis, pneumonia, sepsis, bacteremia, meningitis, inflammation and allergy, among others. Hyaluronidases are widely distributed in nature and the enzymes from mammalian spermatozoa, lysosomes and animal venoms belong to the subclass EC 3.2.1.35. Efetuou-se a clonagem e seqüenciamento do gene que codifica a proteína capsidial de dois isolados do vírus do mosaico da alface (Lettuce mosaic virus, LMV) provenientes do estado de São Paulo, previamente caracterizados como pertencentes aos patótipos II (AF198, incapaz de infetar cultivares com os genes de resistência mo1¹ ou mo1²) e IV (AF199, capaz de quebrar a resistência propiciada pelos genes mo1¹ e mo1²), com base na virulência em cultivares diferenciadoras. cDNA cloning, Phylogenic Analysis and Gene Expression Pattern of Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase in Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) BABT

The aim of the present study was to clone and characterize a full length cDNA of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (SoPAL). Differential tissue expression pattern of the SoPAL transcript and its enzyme activity was also analyzed during the tillering stage of growth. The full-length of SoPAL cDNA was 2118 bp long and contained a protein with 706 amino acids, determined by encoding technique. The amino acid sequence and phylogenic analysis of the cloned SoPAL showed high similarity to PAL from other monocotyledonous such as sorghum (96%), maize (93%) and Bamboos (87.12%). A anaplasmose e uma doença pertencente ao complexo tristeza parasitaria bovina, que causa grandes prejuízos a pecuária da América Latina. Essa enfermidade e causada por Anaplasma marginale, riquetsia intracelular do genogrupo II das erliquias. Nos últimos anos, os estudos sobre o diagnóstico imunológico e a vacinação contra A. marginale concentraram-se na obtenção de frações antigênicas. Na membrana externa dessa riquetsia, foram caracterizadas seis proteínas principais de superfície (major surface proteins-MSPs: MSP1a, MSP1b, MSP2, MSP3, MSP4 e MSP5). Cloning and sequencing of c-DNA encoding N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit-1 in the hypothalamus of male sheep R. Bras. Zootec.

The objective of the present study was to report the molecular cloning and determination of the sequences N-methyl-D-aspartate subunit-1 receptor (NMDAR-1) in the hypothalamus of sheep. The re-amplified DNA template for NMDA -1 from the hypothalamus of male sheep was cloned using pBluescript-Sk-plasmids (pBSK, 2958 bp). Purified plasmids containing the NMDA receptor c-DNA were sequenced using the dye-terminator chemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Nebraska, USA. Crude extracts of house dust mites are used clinically for diagnosis and immunotherapy of allergic diseases, including bronchial asthma, perennial rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis. However, crude extracts are complexes with non-allergenic antigens and lack effective concentrations of important allergens, resulting in several side effects. Our objective was to clone, express and characterize adult Dermatophagoides farinae group 1 (Der f 1) allergens to further produce recombinant allergens for future clinical applications in order to eliminate side reactions from crude extracts of mites. Based on GenBank data, we designed primers and amplified the cDNA fragment coding for Der f 1 by nested-PCR. After purification and recovery, the cDNA fragment was cloned into the pMD19-T vector. The fragment was then sequenced, subcloned into the plasmid pET28a(+), expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 and identified by Western blotting. The simultaneous propagation of two optical pulses through a doped nonlinear dispersive medium modelled by a resonant three-level system was investigated numerically, within the framework of a pair of coupled extended nonlinear Schrödinger equations. These included the contribution of the dopant resonances whose dynamics is governed by Bloch equations. In this work, we review the interesting possibilities on the manipulation of fields such as cloning, breakup and soliton interactions, that the combination of coherent population trapping with nonlinear dispersive media offers.

Consumer Preferences for Amount and Type of Fat in Ground Beef AgEcon

Scientists and beef industry participants are investigating ways to improve the healthiness of beef. We report results of a nationwide mail survey developed to determine consumers’ preferences for fat content in ground beef and identify how consumers would most like to improve the healthiness of beef. The results from a choice-based conjoint experiment indicate that consumers place significant value on reducing saturated fat and the Omega 6:3 ratio in ground beef, but were relatively unconcerned about conjugated linoleic acid.
