'Bordô' grapevines (Vitis labrusca) have great relevance to viticulture due to the quality they can impart to wines and juices. They are a source of ascorbic acid - a potent antioxidant, and pectin, which is used in the food industry and is an important dietary fiber. This project aims to quantify ascorbic acid and pectin contents in citric fruits, commercial oranges and tangerines, comparing them in sizes and varieties. Benthic macroinvertebrate community structure in a stream of the north-west region of Paraná State, Brazil

El presente trabajo comprende la composición y distribución del plancton en las Islas Galápagos. Para el efecto se establecieron 12 estaciones ubicadas en las secciones 83°- 86°-89° y 92°W, realizadas en septiembre del 2011. Se identificaron 71 especies de fitoplancton en muestras de red (50µ). Las diatomeas fueron dominantes y en menor concentración se observaron los Dinoflagelados, Cocolitofóridos, Silicoflagelados, Cianobacterias y Tintínnidos. Characterization of Brazilian Syrah winter wines at bottling and after ageing

ABSTRACT: Double pruning extended the harvest season of wine grape (Vitis vinifera L.) to dry winter, enabling production of high quality wines in the southeastern Brazil. Winter harvest allows grapes to fulfill not only technological maturation, but also phenolic ripeness. Winter wines from Syrah grapes harvested from eight vineyards in southeastern Brazil during three harvests were analyzed for their chemical and aromatic composition after bottling and after ageing for 20, 30, and 42 months in bottle. Winter wines have high content of total phenolic compounds, which remained almost constant through ageing, as well as color intensity. Abstract Identifying potential patterns in pirarucu (Arapaima gigas) composition, as a function of the different fish muscle zones (dorse, venter, ventrecha and tail), was the main objective of this research. For such, the different pirarucu muscle zones were evaluated, in order to obtain proximate composition and minerals content. It was also determined amino acids and fatty acids contents in fish muscle. The dorsal, ventral and tail muscle zones presented similar moisture (76.5-78.2%), protein (17.8-18.9%), total lipids (1.0-1.5%) and ash (0.9-1.2%) contents. Abstract This study investigated the physical and chemical composition of three jujube fruits cultivated in China. The objective was to explore the effect of jujube genotype and cultivation districts on the quality of jujube fruits. Results showed significant differences on their physical and chemical composition. The Junzao cultivar contained relatively low level on the total dietary fiber, protein, total sugar, and total titratable acids. Este trabalho analisa a composição e a sazonalidade das espécies de moluscos potenciais hospedeiros intermediários de trematódeos digenéticos, bem como fornece informações a respeito das possíveis infecções por diplostomídeos nesta comunidade, em ambientes lênticos da planície de inundação do alto rio Paraná. Foram coletadas e analisadas dez espécies de moluscos, e houve nítida sazonalidade na densidade e abundância dos moluscos, correlacionada significativamente com a temperatura da água. Os maiores valores observados foram entre os meses de novembro de 2002 a fevereiro de 2003. Apenas Biomphalaria peregrina caracterizou-se como hospedeiro para Diplostomidae, pois nesta espécie foram encontradas 32 cercárias de Hysteromorpha triloba em março de 2003.

During the period 6th - 13th of september 1995, the National Fisheries Institute carried out an oceanographic cruise in the Gulf of Guayaquil area and at the northern ecuadorian coast from 3~'10'S and 00~' latitude to 80~'- 82~'W longitude. During the survey, 22 planktological stations were carried out. Vertical towings in the water colum of 50 m depth were also made, using a net of 55~km. A total of 109 species were identified. High concentrations of diatoms and dinoflagellates were observed along the sampling area. The most common species were Proboscia alata, Rhizosolenia styliformis, Ornithocercus steinu and Ceratium tripos. It was also determined a high fertilitty area (1,3 x 106 cel.m-3). Composición y abundancia del macrozooplancton e ictioplancton en el Estrecho Bransfield, durante el verano austral 1998

La composición, distribución y abundancia de las comunidades planctónicas de los ríos Mocache, Vinces, Babahoyo y el Humedal Abras de Mantequilla (Provincia de Los Ríos) fue analizada durante el 2009. Mensualmente en 29 zonas de pesca se recolectaron muestras para el análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo de fitoplancton, zooplancton e ictioplancton. Se identificaron 139 grupos fitoplanctónicos, 63 de zooplancton y fauna acompañante, así como 16 géneros y ocho especies de larvas de peces. Se realizó un crucero oceanográfico en el Estrecho Bransfield a bordo del Bae/Orión, colectándose muestras de macrozooplancton obtenidas por arrastres oblicuos con redes tipo bongo de 500μ hasta una profundidad de 300 m. Coral recruitment determines the maintenance, renovation and future of the coral community. In order to determine the composition, density and importance value of scleractinian juvenile corals (<2 or < 4 cm of diameter; depending of the species) two localities were sampled (Reggae Nest and El Faro) at the deep leeward terrace site of San Andres Island.
