Composting has the potential to mitigate methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from manure. The heterogeneous nature of emitting surfaces makes it difficult to quantify these emissions. CH4 and N2O fluxes measured using eight small chambers (0.72 m2) and a mega chamber (90 m2) were compared, and the effect of aeration on the fluxes during composting was studied. Two batches of compost were placed in three channels and 2-3 small flux chambers were deployed on each channel. The channels were enclosed by a building serving as a mega chamber. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the application of poultry litter with different composting times on the occurrence of clubroot and the development of cauliflower plants. El compostaje del estiércol vacuno de feedlot es una práctica habitual en países desarrollados, con el objeto de aprovechar su valor como enmienda y fertilizante y disminuir el efecto negativo en el ambiente. En la Argentina el estiércol suele aplicarse al suelo sin tratamientos de higienización y estabilización. Sewage sludge (SS) has been widely used as organic fertilizer. However, its continuous use can cause imbalances in soil fertility as well as soil-water-plant system contamination. The study aimed to evaluate possible improvements in the chemical and microbiological characteristics of domestic SS, with low heavy metal contents and pathogens, through the composting process. Two composting piles were set up, based on an initial C/N ratio of 30:1, with successive layers of tree pruning waste and SS. Morchella esculenta es un hongo comestible de alto valor comercial y la obtención de esclerocios es considerada como la clave para su cultivo. En este trabajo se evaluó la cepa IE-750 en ocho medios de cultivo sólido y seis en forma líquida, utilizando como parámetros el crecimiento micelial, la producción de biomasa, la habilidad para producir esclerocios y su biomasa. El mejor crecimiento micelial se obtuvo en el tratamiento con composta (T7: 53.87 cm2), y en cuanto a la biomasa, el medio de cultivo con levadura fue mejor (T3: 80.3 mg). Se estudió la dinámica microbiana y el contenido de nitrógeno mineral y total durante el proceso de compostaje de cachaza reactivada con gallinaza. Se evaluaron cuatro tratamientos con diferentes proporciones de cachaza y gallinaza (10:0, 9:1, 7:3 y 5:5), en contenedores de 68 L durante 87 días. Las variables evaluadas fueron: temperatura, poblaciones de bacterias, hongos, microorganismos ligninolíticos, evolución de CO2, nitrógeno total, amonio y nitratos. This paper presents a comprehensive economic analysis of recycling organic wastes through composting. A mathematical programming model is developed to examine the optimal level of compost production from sources of organic municipal solid waste, livestock manure and wastewater-treatment sludge. The model incorporates the spatial nature of the problem by referring to the locations of the sources for raw organic matter, of the composting plants and agricultural regions.
