A magyar zöldség-gyümölcs kisárutermelők nagy láncoknak történő értékesítési lehetőségei AgEcon
Seres, Antal; Szabo, Marton.
A multinacionális láncoknál a közvetlen kisárutermelői beszállítóknak a speciális „réspiaci” termékeknél, illetve a nagy termelők között szabadon hagyott piaci réseken van mozgáslehetőségük. E termékek kivételével a közvetlen kisárutermelői beszállításoknak nincs jövője, mert elaprózott kínálattal nagy számban nem léphetnek be a beszállítói körbe. Hatékonysági követelmények miatt előbb-utóbb a hazai láncoknál is erősödik a beszerzés koncentrációja, és ez itt is csökkenti a közvetlenül beszállító kisárutermelők ma még lényegesen nagyobb lehetőségeit. A nagy üzletláncok üzletpolitikája olyan követelményeket támaszt, amelyeket a kisárutermelők a réspiaci termékek kivételével külön-külön nem tudnak teljesíteni. Ezért közös termeltető és értékesítő...

Allelopathic effects of Rhynchosia capitata on germination and seedling growth of mungbean Planta Daninha
Ali,H.H.; Tanveer,A.; Nadeem,M.A.; Javaid,M.M.; Kashif,M.S.; Chadhar,A.R..
Experiments were conducted to evaluate the allelopathic influence of Rhynchosia capitata on germination and seedling growth of mungbean (Vigna radiate) along with identification of the phytotoxic substances responsible for this activity. Water extracts of root, shoot, leaf, fruit and whole plant were prepared by soaking them in water in a ratio of 1:20 (w/v) for 24 h. All the extracts affected germination and seedling growth of mungbean, but higher inhibition was seen with R. capitata leaf water extracts. A linear decrease in the germination characteristics of mungbean was observed with the decrease in the concentration of leaf extract from 5% to 1%. The soil-incorporated residues (1-4% w/w) of R. capitata stimulated the growth of root and hypocotyl at low...

Potential ways to address the issues that relate to the techniques for analyzing food and environmental samples for the presence of enteric viruses are discussed. It is not the authors' remit to produce or recommend standard or reference methods but to address specific issues in the analytical procedures. Foods of primary importance are bivalve molluscs, particularly, oysters, clams, and mussels; salad crops such as lettuce, green onions and other greens; and soft fruits such as raspberries and strawberries. All types of water, not only drinking water but also recreational water (fresh, marine, and swimming pool), river water (irrigation water), raw and treated sewage are potential vehicles for virus transmission. Well over 100 different enteric viruses...

ASYMMETRIC PRICE RELATIONSHIPS IN THE U.S. BROILER INDUSTRY AgEcon
Bernard, John C.; Willett, Lois Schertz.
This study presents a testing methodology to analyze potential price asymmetries among the farm, wholesale, and retail levels of the U.S. broiler industry. Lag length, direction of causality and power of the integrators in the industry have allowed the wholesale price to become the center, causal price in the market. Asymmetric price transmissions, however, are limited. While downward movements in the wholesale price are passed on more fully to growers than increases in the wholesale price, only consumers in the North Central region of the U.S. share a larger portion of wholesalers' price increases than price decreases.

Az élelmiszerlánc szereplői közötti kapcsolatok hazánkban AgEcon
Popp, Jozsef; Juhasz, Aniko.

Business concentration in the Hungarian food retail market AgEcon
Juhasz, Aniko; Seres, Antal; Stauder, Marta.
Retail market consolidation and its effects on micro enterprises and corner shops present a long-term challenge to the Hungarian retail grocery market. The authors hope this study will help the concerned parties deal with this challenge. The study is one of the first attempts at a comprehensive analysis, and employs concentration tables and concentration ratios. It is based on a database from all businesses, including partnerships and individual entrepreneurs, and focuses on the quantifiable trends and the magnitude of market concentration regarding retail sales and specific areas affected by the consolidation process. Our research revealed that, by 2004, concentration in the retail food market was at a high level, considerably higher than the overall...

Commodity Payments, Farm Business Survival, and Farm Size Growth AgEcon
Key, Nigel D.; Roberts, Michael J..
In the last 25 years, U.S. crop farms have steadily declined in number and grown in average size, as production has shifted to larger operations. Larger farms tend to receive more commodity program payments because most payments are tied to a farm’s current or historical production, but whether payments have contributed to farm growth is uncertain. This study uses farm-level data from the census of agriculture to determine whether there is a statistical relationship between farm commodity program payments and greater concentration in production. The analysis indicates that, at the regional level, higher commodity program payments per acre are associated with subsequent farm growth. Also, higher payments per acre are associated with higher rates of farm...

Concentration and purification of Porphyridium cruentum exopolysaccharides by membrane filtration at various cross-flow velocities ArchiMer
Balti, Rafik; Le Balc'H, Romain; Brodu, Nicolas; Gilbert, Marthe; Le Gouic, Benjamin; Le Gall, Sophie; Sinquin, Corinne; Masse, Anthony.
Exopolysaccharides (EPS) from cell-free Porphyridium cruentum media were concentrated then purified (diafiltration) on a 0.14 µm ceramic membrane. The influence of cross-flow velocities on filtration performances was investigated. Mean permeate fluxes equal to 49.8, 68.9 and 81.9 L.h-1. m-2 were obtained during the concentration at 4 bar for respectively cross-flow velocities inside the membrane lumen equal to 2.5, 3.3 and 4.2 m.s-1; 49.7 L.h-1. m-2 for the diafiltration at 3.3 m.s-1. Permeate fluxes were correctly predicted from polysaccharide concentrations (10 % deviation). Volume reduction factors higher than 7.8 were reached. Rejection rates of polysaccharides and proteins varied according to the cross-flow velocities. Thus, the EPS recovery rate or...

Concentration in Hungarian Food Retailing and Supplier-Retailer Relationships AgEcon
Juhasz, Aniko; Stauder, Marta.
The paper is a summary about the Hungarian retail sector based on the results of different research projects completed in the last five years. From all of these studies and of course the wide ranging domestic and international literature we had to conclude that the retailers have become more and more the exclusive owner of the information about the consumers and with this they become the new "captains" of the food chain. Thus we always started our research with gathering information about the situation of the Hungarian retail sector because we believed if we want to help those who try to adapt (the suppliers) then we have to know much more about those who dictate (the retailers). Analysing the concentration in company and not branch level we can say that...

Concentration of the trade and the small-scale fruit and vegetable producers – practices in Hungary and in the European Union AgEcon
Kurti, Andrea; Kozak, Anita; Seres, Antal.
This study examines the conflicts arising from the requirements of the food retail chains and their possible solutions, based on an analysis of the foreign and domestic trade literature and on a domestic assessment of 2008. Direct supplies from small-scale producers have future prospects only in the field of niche market products. Only production organisations integrating small-scale producers may be successful in the supply of large quantity products of homogeneous quality. In Hungary, similar organisations – principally POs – still do not have a role comparable to that they fulfil in more developed countries of the European Union in the field of the supplies to the food retail chains. For increasing supplies, the domestic small-scale producers should...
