DNA extraction and quantification from touch and scrape preparations obtained from autopsy liver cells BJMBR
Ribeiro,C.N.M.; Peres,L.C.; Pina-Neto,J.M..
The objective of the present study was to develop a simplified low cost method for the collection and fixation of pediatric autopsy cells and to determine the quantitative and qualitative adequacy of extracted DNA. Touch and scrape preparations of pediatric liver cells were obtained from 15 cadavers at autopsy and fixed in 95% ethanol or 3:1 methanol:acetic acid. Material prepared by each fixation procedure was submitted to DNA extraction with the Wizard® genomic DNA purification kit for DNA quantification and five of the preparations were amplified by multiplex PCR (azoospermia factor genes). The amount of DNA extracted varied from 20 to 8,640 µg, with significant differences between fixation methods. Scrape preparation fixed in 95% ethanol provided...

Double Inferior Vena Cava Detected by CT Venography and Confirmed by Magnetic Resonance Venography: Embryogenesis and Literature Review International Journal of Morphology
Hadidi,Maher T; Badran,Darwish H; Ghaida,Jamal Abu; shatarat,Amjad T; Al-Hadidy,Azmy M; Tarawneh,Emad.
A hospital based prospective study was conducted from July 2001 to July 2015 at the Department of Radiology, Jordan University Hospital, Amman, Jordan. During that period, five cases of double inferior vena cava (DIVC) were discovered among a cohort of 7722 patients (3861 men and 3861 women, 49.5±16.9 years, range 1678 years). Cases were diagnosed by contrast-enhanced Spiral CT venography (CTV) and confirmed by turbo three-dimensional (3D) time-of-flight contrast-enhanced MR venography. The majority of patients 3166 (41 %) were referred for staging and follow-up of malignancy, postoperative complications 1777 (23 %), non-specific abdominal pain 1467 (19 %), preoperative assessment 849 (11 %) and trauma 463 (6 %). Magnetic resonance venography showed...

Hemivertebrae in dogs – Literature review MV&Z
de Carvalho, Maria Carolina Ferraz.
Hemivertebrae are congenital anomalies found most often in brachiocephalic dogs with helical tails. These anomalies represent around 7 % of the spinal alterations reported in the literature. They occur most commonly in the thoracolumbar region of the spine, causing symptoms of upper motor neuron damage in hind limbs. Dogs may display symptoms early in life which progress during growth. Diagnosis is based on symptoms, physical examination, and imaging studies. Treatment may be conservative in animals whose symptoms do not progress, but in animals whose symptoms progress, the treatment currently most indicated is surgical stabilization, with or without spinal decompression.
