| Given the strong effects of behavioural hierarchies on growth in many cultured species and the key role of feed efficiency in aquaculture economics, understanding the nature of the interaction of these variables is important for the sustainability of aquaculture. The relationship between agonistic behaviour, growth and feed efficiency in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus, was studied by rearing 120 fish in eight aquaria. Fish were video-recorded to estimate the occurrence of agonistic behaviour during a fasting and a refeeding period. | Registros de produção de leite de 19.151 lactações de 8.984 vacas, filhas de 795 touros Gir, foram usados para avaliar geneticamente as vacas. Equação de modelo misto foi usada para predizer o valor genético dos touros que foram incorporados no índice de seleção das vacas. Além do índice de seleção, os modelos animais foram também usados para predizer o valor genético das vacas, usando somente a primeira lactação ou até cinco lactações por vaca. As confiabilidades das predições obtidas dos valores genéticos das vacas usando-se os modelos animais foram maiores, quando foram usadas na avaliação até cinco lactações (0,76) ou somente a primeira lactação (0,73), em relação às confiabilidades das predições obtidas pelos índices de seleção (0,55 a 0,59).... |

| In Brazil, plant-available micronutrients in the soil can be determined by several chemical extractants, the most common of which are dilute acid and chelating solutions. The purpose of this study was to assess the extractants 0.1 mol L-1 HCl, Mehlich-1, Mehlich-3 and DTPA for analysis of the micronutrients Cu, Zn, Fe, and Mn in soils from the state of Paraná. In samples from 12 soils (0-20 cm layer), wheat was planted (Triticum aestivum), grown for 42 days after emergence, and then bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) for 38 days. | The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for survival and weight of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), farmed in cages and ponds in Brazil, and to predict genetic gain under different scenarios. Survival was recorded as a binary response (dead or alive), during harvest time in the 2008 grow-out period. Genetic parameters were estimated using a Bayesian mixed linear-threshold animal model via Gibbs sampling. The breeding population consisted of 2,912 individual fish, which were analyzed together with the pedigree of 5,394 fish. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar as correlações, herdabilidades, repetibilidades, tendências genéticas e fenotípicas, e avaliar as distribuições univariada e bivariada da produção de leite e do intervalo entre partos, em fêmeas bubalinas da raça Murrah, paridas no período de 1982 a 2003. As tendências genéticas e fenotípicas foram estimadas pelas regressões das variáveis dependentes sobre o ano de parto, pelos métodos: regressão linear e regressão não paramétrica, utilizando-se a função de alisamento Spline. | The objective of this work was to compare different phenotypic stability methods by using yield and storage root dry matter content data of eight cassava genotypes, assessed in eight environments in northwest of Paraná State, Brazil. All the methodologies applied showed to be able to study the stability of cassava genotypes, but each with its peculiarities. The methodologies of Eskridge, Annicchiarico and Lin and Binns were the most appropriated on situation with smaller effect of G x E interaction.
