A Morphometric Study on the Skull of Donkey (Equus asinus) International Journal of Morphology

The present study was carried out on a number of 16 skulls of adult male domestic donkeys. Craniometric measurements for 40 different parts of the skulls were made. All investigated features were expressed as Mean±SD. Cephalic indices and ratios were calculated by using the investigated features. The craniometric measurements and cephalic indices had been compared with those of local horses and ponies. A skull length of 443.07±53.57 mm and a maximum zygomatic width of 169.09±17.64 mm were obtained. The size of donkey skull was between those of local horses and ponies. A skull index of 38.23±0.85, a cranial index of 45.01±2.83 and a facial index of 67.80±3.79 were obtained. Cranial index and skull index were found to be close in value to that of local...

Knowing the anatomy of the nasal framework and its components, as well as their relations of size and shape is essential to correctly and safely perform nasal surgery, such as rhinoplasty. Symmetry and proportion of nasal bones and frontal processes of the maxilla related to patient's skull shape is not yet well established. Variation of these proportions due to differences in skull shape may interfere in the results of rhinoplasty, leading to poor aesthetic results and postoperative complications. Craniometrical Studies on the Skull of Tibetan Gazelle (Procapra Picticaudata) International Journal of Morphology

A total of 10 skulls of Tibetan gazelle were utilized in this study. Craniometric measurements for 22 different parts of the skull were made. Skull indices and ratios were calculated. A skull index of 43.22±0.44, a cranial index of 58.37±0.80 and a facial index of 116.37±1.24 were obtained.

Estimation of Cranial Capacity in 17-26 Years Old University Students International Journal of Morphology

It is natural that there is close relationship between cranial capacity, and the size of brain. Several studies have estimated the cranial capacity which indirectly reflects the brain volume. This study was carried out on 366 (226 male and 140 female) healthy university students aged between 17-26 years old at Mugla University, Mugla, Turkey. By using linear dimensions of the head the mean cranial capacity and SD in males and females were 1411.64+118.9 cm³ and 1306.95+162.9 cm³, respectively. The foramen venosum (FV) is an anatomical structure situated at the base of the skull, generally posteromedial to the foramen rotundum and anteromedial to the foramen ovale. Its prevalence and patency may be related to the shape of the skull. The objective of this study was to verify the prevalence and patency of the FV and its association with the different skull types. Morphological and Craniometrical Studies on the Skull of Kagani Goat (Capra hircus) of Jammu Region International Journal of Morphology

Forty six heads of adult Kagani goats were used in the present study. The frontal bone did not constitute the caudal extent of the frontal surface. Both the nasal bones were divided longitudinally into two halves by deep notches up to the middle part starting from its rostral end. The facial tuberosity was placed at the junction of the 4th and 5th cheek teeth. The basisphenpoid bone had a sharp median ridge. The frontal bone contributed to the maximum in this animal. On Biometrical Aspects of the Cephalic Anatomy of Xisqueta Sheep (Catalunya, Spain) International Journal of Morphology

This study, based on a 48 Xisqueta skull samples, gives a statistical insight of the skull shape in this breed. Thirty eight measurements and eight indexes were recorded. The variance structure was done using a Principal Component Analysis (PCA). This was possible sequel to the application and permission of the covariance matrix. The mean length of the skulls was found to be 265.51±22.24 mm, with the width and cephalic index to the magnitude of 117.2 ± 6.89 mm and 44.69 ± 4.29 mm, respectively.
