Cardinal temperatures and modeling of vegetative development in guava AGRIAMBI

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to estimate cardinal temperatures (base, optimum, and maximum), and simulate the vegetative development of guava crop through phyllochron (linear) and Wang and Engel (nonlinear) models at the seedling phase. The experiment was conducted in Itajubá, MG, Brazil (22° 24’ 46.43” S 45° 26’ 48.94” W), for two years in a completely randomized design with twelve sowing dates and five experimental units per treatment, totaling sixty experimental units. The cardinal temperatures were estimated using twelve methods described in the literature and the values were: base, 10.9 °C, optimum, 17.3 °C and maximum, 51.2 °C. Foram avaliados a relação dos graus-dia e da radiação solar global com a altura da planta e com o aparecimento e comprimento das folhas em duas cultivares de milho (Zea mays L.), BR 206 (ciclo normal) e XL212 (ciclo superprecoce). O experimento foi conduzido, em condições de campo, com irrigação, na área experimental da EMBRAPA - Milho e Sorgo, em Sete Lagoas, MG. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi de blocos casualizados com 3 repetições. A semeadura foi feita na primeira quinzena de fevereiro de 1994. The aim of the present study was to determine the duration of different phenological stages and the temperature requirements of the sugar-apple, Annona squamosa, during two crop cycles in the semiarid region of Brazil. The objective of this study was to adapt a nonlinear model (Wang and Engel ? WE) for simulating the phenology of maize (Zea mays L.), and to evaluate this model and a linear one (thermal time), in order to predict developmental stages of a field-grown maize variety. A field experiment, during 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 was conducted in Santa Maria, RS, Brazil, in two growing seasons, with seven sowing dates each. Dates of emergence, silking, and physiological maturity of the maize variety BRS Missões were recorded in six replications in each sowing date. Data collected in 2005/2006 growing season were used to estimate the coefficients of the two models, and data collected in the 2006/2007 growing season were used as independent data set for model evaluations....

To understand the production cycle of a particular cultivar in a given region, it is necessary to obtain information related to its phenology and the accumulated degree days. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the phenological cycle of citrus species grafted onto two rootstocks and grown in the Low-Middle Region of the São Francisco River Basin, in particular with respect to accumulated degree days. Variación genética y ambiental en un ensayo de progenies de Pinus patula. Colegio de Postgraduados

Se compara el desarrollo de progenies de Pinus patula Schiede ex Schltdl. et Cham.de seis años de edad con diferentes niveles de mejora genética en dos sitios en ambientes contrastantes: Aquixtla, Puebla a 2,930 m (S1) y Acaxochitlán, Hidalgo a 2,260 m (S2). Primero se evaluaron 36 familias mejoradas en Colombia y Sudáfrica (grupo M) y de 36 nativas (grupo Selectas, S). A los 6 años, la supervivencia fue de 72.7% en S1 y 90% en S2. Las progenies del grupo M fueron estadísticamente superiores en el volumen del tronco en S1 (4.3 vs. 3.6 dm3), mientras que no lo fueron en S2 (10.7 vs. 13.5 dm3). En S1, las heredabilidades (h2i) para las características de crecimiento (altura, diámetro y volumen) variaron de 0.09 a 0.12, mientras que en el S2 de 0.26 a 0.35....

ABSTRACT Eugenia pyriformis Cambess., known locally as uvaieira, a species of fruit-bearing tree with both pharmacological and gastronomic potential, has seeds which are sensitive to desiccation. The aim of this study was to analyse whether the degree of tolerance to desiccation of uvaieira seeds depends on the stage of maturation of the seeds at shedding. This, in turn, depends on the environmental conditions in which the seeds develop, including the accumulation of degree-days and rainfall in the period.
