Antioxidant Effects of Biochanin A in Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Rats BABT
Sadri,Hamideh; Goodarzi,Mohammad Taghi; Salemi,Zahra; Seifi,Morteza.
ABSTRACT Bioflavonoid-containing diets have been reported to be beneficial in diabetes. In the current study, the effect of Biochanin A (BCA) on blood glucose, antioxidant enzyme activities and oxidative stress markers in diabetic rats were investigated. 30 male Wistar rats were divided into five groups. Two of them were selected as control; group1: control (receiving 0.5%DMSO), and group2: Control+BCA (receiving 10 mg/kg.bw BCA). Diabetes was induced in other rats with injection of (55 mg/kg.bw) streptozotocin; group3: diabetic control (receiving 0.5%DMSO), groups 4 and 5 were treated with 10 and 15 mg/kg.bw BCA respectively. After 6 weeks the following results were obtained. Fasting blood glucose (FBG), Triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low...

Effects of alternating magnetic field on the metabolism of the healthy and diabetic organisms BABT
Öcal,Işıl; Kalkan,Tunaya; Günay,İsmail.
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of alternating magnetic field on the metabolism of the healthy and diabetic rats. The rats were divided into two experimental groups. Magnetic fields of 5 and 8mT intensity was applied to the first group of rats for 3 weeks (C5mT, CMF5mT, C8mT and CMF8mT). The second group was identified as diabetics group and 5mT was applied (D5mT and DMF5mT). The control groups (C5mT, C8mT, D5mT) of applied magnetic fields were placed in the same cage of the rats in experimental groups that have the same conditions but no pass current. The weights of rats exposed to magnetic fields in experimental groups were increased to initial weight; the plasma glucose levels were decreased in the blood parameters of the healthy and...

Lack of antidiabetic effect of a Eugenia jambolana leaf decoction on rat streptozotocin diabetes BJMBR
Pepato,M.T.; Folgado,V.B.B.; Kettelhut,I.C.; Brunetti,I.L..
Streptozotocin-diabetic rats were treated for 17 days with a decoction of Eugenia jambolana (Myrtaceae) leaves (15%, w/v) as a substitute for water. Body weight, food and fluid intake, urine volume, glycemia, urinary glucose and urea were evaluated every 5 days. The animals were sacrificed by decapitation and blood samples collected for the determination of glycemia, serum cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides and angiotensin-converting enzyme. The weight of adipose and muscle tissues was also determined. There were no statistically significant differences between treated and untreated rats for any of the biochemical or physiological parameters. We conclude that, at least in this experimental model, Eugenia jambolana leaf decoction has no...

The effects of chronic AC magnetic field on contraction and relaxation of isolated thoracic aorta rings of healthy and diabetic rats BABT
Öcal,Isil; Günay,Ismail.
The aim of in this study was to determine the effect of chronic alternating current (AC) magnetic field on the contraction and relaxation parameters of isolated thoracic aorta rings in healthy and diabetic rats. Sixty rats (Wistar albino spp) weighing between 250-300 g were used. The rats were divided into four groups: 1-Control (C), 2- control + magnetic field (C+MA), 3- experimental diabetic (DIA), 4- experimental diabetic and magnetic field (DIA+MA). Magnetic fields of 5 mT intensity and 50 Hz frequency oriented in the north-south direction was applied to the C+MA and DIA+MA groups for 2 hours each day for one month, after which rats were killed by decapitation and the thoracic aorta dissected. This showed attenuated contraction responses to...
