Abstract The aim of this study was to assess the hepatotoxicity cases described in the literature, attributed to the consumption of Herbalife(r) products, and to determine whether a causal relationship exists between the reported cases of liver injury and the use of these products. A literature search was performed on the PubMed, LILACS and PAHO databases. Seven publications reporting a total of 53 cases of hepatotoxicity linked to the use of Herbalife(r) products were retrieved. The probiotic influence on the immune system, especially under pathogenic challenge conditions, still remains controversial. To address this, a systematic review of current studies concerning the efficacy of probiotics on the immune response of rats subjected to experimental challenges was conducted. The survey was conducted using PubMed, ISI Web of Science and Scielo databases. Only studies which tested probiotics in vivo in rats were included. The experimental design, methodological quality, and results of the articles were analyzed. In total 21 articles were selected for this study. Abstract Dietary supplements in many countries such as the USA do not require registration prior to commercialization. The Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (ANVISA) registers substances with functional properties as foods. Lutein is a carotenoid with antioxidant activity available on the market. However, no regulatory mandates exist to govern the design of quality control tests, which are necessary to ensure formulation effectiveness. A pecuária no Acre tem como característica o uso de pastagens formadas com gramíneas, principalmente as espécies do gênero Brachiaria. A partir de 1998, a Embrapa Acre, em parceria com a iniciativa privada, iniciou uma série de estudos com o objetivo de avaliar o desempenho animal e o retorno econômico do uso de diferentes suplementos na fase de crescimento de novilhos, mantidos em pastagem de Brachiaria humidicula e B. decumbens. Este trabalho apresenta os resultados e as recomendações técnicas para que os produtores decidam se é conveniente ou não, utilizar esta tecnologia visando aumentar a eficiência e a rentabilidade de seus empreendimentos. |
