Chemical aspects of the San Jorge Gulf benthic system, Argentina (2005-2010). A new contribution on the chemical aspects of the San Jorge Gulf benthic system in the distribution area of shrimp Pleoticus muelleri (Spence Bate, 1888) during 2005-2010 is presented. Concentration of dissolved oxygen in bottom water and mix layer and of total organic matter (TOM), total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), chlorophyll a (Chl a) and phaeopigments (Phaeo) in surficial sediments were analyzed. The origin and nutritional value of TOM deposited were also assessed through the C:N ratio. Water samples were collected during the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Pesquero (INIDEP) seasonal research cruises in the period 2005-2010. Sediment samples... |

In this work, we describe qualitative and quantitative aspects of the cycling of detritus of aquatic macrophytes and carbohydrates in two coastal lagoons of the northeastern part of the State of Rio de Janeiro. Samples of water of the Imboassica and Cabiúnas lagoons were enriched with sucrose. Samples of water of the Cabiúnas lagoon were also utilized to arrange mineralization chambers with fragments of three species of aquatic macrophytes found in these lagoons (Typha domingensis, Potamogeton stenostachys and Nymphaea ampla). Following that, the bottles were aerated and incubated (in the laboratory) for a period of 8 days. The concentrations of dissolved oxygen, the pH, the electrical conductivity and the temperature were daily measured. The anaerobic... |

This article was intended to contribute to the knowledge of the behavior of Dissolved Oxygen in the water column that appeared in the ecuadorian fixed stations in La Libertad and Manta, average monthly values were obtained and the maximum at different depth monitored and shown to be 75 meters in the years when "El Niño" events appeared, the highest concentrations were found monthly in the two fixed stations, allowing behavioral tendencies contribute to a chemical parameter, to warn the start of warm event. |

This paper presents the first decadal reanalysis simulation of the biogeochemistry of the North West European shelf, along with a full evaluation of its skill, confidence, and value. An error-characterized satellite product for chlorophyll was assimilated into a physical-biogeochemical model of the North East Atlantic, applying a localized Ensemble Kalman filter. The results showed that the reanalysis improved the model simulation of assimilated chlorophyll in 60% of the study region. Model validation metrics showed that the reanalysis had skill in matching a large data set of in situ observations for 10 ecosystem variables. Spearman rank correlations were significant and higher than 0.7 for physical-chemical variables (temperature, salinity, and oxygen),... |

European directives (Water Framework Directive - WFD and Marine Strategy Framework Directive - MSFD) require a regular survey of several descriptors of the Environmental Status of coastal waters of the North-east Atlantic Ocean. Especially for the MSFD, which may concern large continental shelf areas where measurements are scarce, realistic ecological models can help assessing the Environmental Status. The ECO-MARS3D model of the pelagic ecosystem of the Bay of Biscay and English Channel continental shelf (NE Atlantic) has been developed for these applied purposes and validated against various types of historic data. This first paper deals with the basic biogeochemical version, which contains inorganic nutrients (NH4, NO3, PO4, Si(OH)4), three... |
