Drifting buoys DAC data quality control manual 5
Drifter Data Management Team,.
This document is the Drifter quality control manual. It is derived from Argo floats quality control on trajectories (http://dx.doi.org/10.13155/33951). Changes from the previous version of the manual are highlighted in yellow. The Drifter data system has three levels of quality control. - The first level is the real-time system that performs a set of agreed automatic checks on all drifter measurements. Real-time data with assigned quality flags are available to users within the 24-48 hrs timeframe. - The second level of quality control is the delayed-mode system. - The third level of quality control is regional scientific analyses of all drifter data with other available data. The procedures for regional analyses are still to be determined. This...

Inertial currents in the Indian Ocean derived from satellite tracked surface drifters 5
Saji, P. Kuttan; Shenoi, Satheesh C.; Almeida, Anselm; Rao, Gangadhara.
Satellite-tracked surface drifters were used to analyze the characteristics of inertial currents in the tropical Indian Ocean. The drifters were drogued at 15 m depth and had wind-produced slips less than 0.1 % of the wind speed. The rotary spectra of surface velocity components indicated the significance of inertial currents. They are circular (rotary coefficient > 0.5), highly intermittent and contribute up to 46 % to the total kinetic energy of the surface flow field. Events of inertial activity, either triggered by the passage of atmospheric disturbances or by the local fluctuations in the atmospheric pressure (winds), did not last for more than 4 to 5 inertial cycles. The observed inertial frequency exhibited a shift towards the red end of the...

Surfaces de mer et dissipation d'énergie 5
Veras Guimaraes, Pedro.
Stochastic wave formulations and models are the most common tools for the assessment and forecast of sea surface conditions. Their ability to account for some of the processes encountered by waves during their evolution remains however a central question. Among other processes, the wave dissipation is for instance still poorly quantified and traditional methods for wave measurements fail to proper insight into its physics in a wide range of conditions. In this context, the work presented in this PhD aims to explore available observation techniques for their application to several quantitative aspects of the dissipation of wave energy, and particularly for short wave modulated by strong tidal currents, for short wave modulated by longer waves. This work...
