Acumulacao de biomassa, caracteristicas fisiologicas e rendimento de graos em cultivares de feijoeiro irrigado e sob sequeiro. Repositório Alice

Em experimento de campo, foram avaliados o crescimento vegetativo e o rendimento de graos de quatro cultivares de feijoeiro (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), sob condicoes de irrigacao ou de sequeiro, correspondendo respectivamente a laminas totais de agua de 252 e 123 mm. Foram efetuadas amostragens semanais da area foliar e da biomassa da parte aerea e seus componentes. Sob estresse hidrico, a biomassa da parte aerea, o índice de area foliar e a taxa de crescimento da cultura foram reduzidos em todas as cultivares. Não houve diferença significativa no rendimento de graos sob sequeiro entre cultivares, mas sob deficiencia hidrica o rendimento das cultivares foi reduzido, com excecao da 'Negro-Argel'. Jatropha curcas is an oil-rich Euphorbiaceae seed species renowned for its apparent tolerance to environmental stresses. It is considered a promising source of renewable feedstock for biodiesel production in the Brazilian semiarid region where crop establishment requires a better understanding of the mechanisms leading to proper seed and plant behavior under water restrictive conditions. This study describes physiological and cytological profiles of J. curcas seeds imbibed in water restriction conditions by means of osmotic stress or osmoconditioning. As opposed to objective definitions in soil physics, the subjective term “soil physical quality” is increasingly found in publications in the soil physics area. A supposed indicator of soil physical quality that has been the focus of attention, especially in the Brazilian literature, is the Least Limiting Water Range (RLL), translated in Portuguese as "Intervalo Hídrico Ótimo" or IHO. Cloning and expression analysis of rboh gene encoding respiratory burst oxidase in Citrullus colocynthis National Institute of Agronomic Research

Drought stress is a major environmental factor influencing plant growth and development. Citrullus colocynthis is a very drought tolerant cucurbit species with a deep root system. Differences in gene expression during drought were studied using cDNA-AFLP. In this study, we focus on mRNA accumulation of drought-induced genes in C. colocynthis treated with PEG, abscisic acid (ABA), salicylic acid (SA), jasmonic acid (JA) or NaCl. Two genes, CcrbohD and CcrbohF, encoding respiratory burst oxidase proteins were cloned using RACE. Canopy temperature (Tc), besides serving as a parameter to estimate crop evapotranspiration (ETc), can also be used to define water stress indexes that have the advantage to serve as a reference for the rational scheduling for irrigation for a crop. One of these indexes, which has been well disseminated, is the crop water stress index (CWSI), based on the ratio between crop resistance and aerodynamic resistance (rc/ra), whose value can be estimated by the difference between the cropy canopy and the air (Tc - Ta). Este trabalho objetivou avaliar o curso diário e sazonal das trocas gasosas, da temperatura foliar e do potencial hídrico da acerola (Malpighia emarginata D.C.), no campo. O experimento realizou-se no município de Paudalho, PE. Os valores da transpiração e do potencial da água foram, de modo geral, mais elevados no início da manhã e no final da tarde; os da resistência difusiva e temperatura foliar foram menores no início da manhã e no final da tarde. Houve uma limitação das trocas gasosas com o sendo mais acentuada na estação seca e na matriz UFRPE 7. Os valores mínimos do potencial ocorreram na época seca, variando de -3,4 MPa (UFRPE 7) a -4,3 Mpa (UFRPE 8), enquanto os valores máximos da resistência variaram de 16,30 s cm-1 (UFRPE 7) a 22,10 s cm-1...

Diagnóstico de morte de pastagem nas regiões leste e nordeste do Estado de Mato Grosso. Infoteca-e

Extensas áreas, da ordem de centenas de hectares, com pastagens secas e mortas foram vistoriadas no Estado do Mato Grosso compreendendo os municípios de Barra do Garças, Água Boa, Canarana e São Jose de Xingu, durante o período de 22 a 28 de novembro de 1999. Por meio de observações de campo, concluiu-se que a morte dessas pastagens foi resultante de um complexo de causas associadas a degradação das pastagens, assim como ambiental. Entretanto, o estresse hídrico ocorrido nos anos de 1998 e 1999. possivelmente em função de distúrbios climáticos globais, pode ter sido o responsável principal pela morte das pastagens naquelas localidades.

Effect of ecological factors on germination of horse purslane (Trianthema portulacastrum) Planta Daninha

Trianthema portulacastrum is a very problematic summer crop weed and a complete crop failure has been observed because of this weed at high density. The effect of different ecological factors on germination of T. portulacastrum seeds collected in two different years (2009 and 2005) was studied in laboratory experiments. An increase in temperature from 25 to 35 ºC increased germination percentage of T. portulacastrum from 65 to 85%, after which germination started to decrease, reducing to 71.25% at 45 ºC. Trianthema portulacastrum had maximum germination with distilled water compared with different salt solutions and drought stress levels. One adaptation of plants to cope with drought or frost stress is to develop wood that is able to withstand the formation and distribution of air bubbles (emboli) in its water conducting xylem cells under negative pressure. The ultrastructure of interconduit pits strongly affects drought-induced embolism resistance, but also mechanical properties of the xylem are involved. The first experimental evidence for a lower embolism resistance in stems of herbaceous plants compared to stems of their secondarily woody descendants further supports this mechanical-functional trade-off. ABSTRACT Banded iron formations (BIF) have a particular vegetation type and provide a good model system for testing theories related to leaf phenology, due to unique stressful environmental conditions. As a consequence of the stressful conditions of BIF environment, we hypothesize that most species would retain at least some significant canopy cover, even at the end of the dry season, independently of growth form - trees, shrubs, and sub-shrubs.
