This study was conducted to gain an understanding of how small-scale farmers in Mbeya District have adopted improved wheat technologies promoted by the wheat research program at MARTI-Uyole. The specific objectives were to assess farmers’ wheat management practices, determine the technical and socioeconomic factors affecting the adoption of improved wheat technologies, and draw implications for research, extension, and policy. A purposive multistage sampling procedure was used to select 202 farmers, 160 from Tembela Division and 42 from Isangati Division, which are two important wheat-growing areas in Mbeya District. Primary data were collected using structured questionnaires and supplemented by secondary information obtained from MARTI-Uyole. Juhudi was... |

Eudrilus eugeniae is a foreign species that is well adapted to captivity system adopted in Brazil. The objective was evaluate the productive and economic performance of earthworms in different substrates in two 100 days. In aim 1, the control substrate composed by cattle manure and forage grass (CMG) was supplemented with minerals (MM), soybean meal (SB) and ground corn (GC). The substrate containing GC was higher than in average weight (AW) of 127% and average weight gain (AWG) of 332% when compared to CMG substrate, superior in 193% AW and 252% AWG when compared to MM and 251% AW and 403% AWG when compared to the substrate with SB. In aim 2, were used different amounts of GC in substrate. The production of the substrate that contained 5% GC was superior... |

ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the economic feasibility of different irrigation systems in broccoli cropping, in Dourados - MS, Brazil. Initially, irrigation was performed using different systems (surface drip, subsurface drip, micro sprinkler, Santeno® and conventional sprinkler). Both yield of commercial inflorescence (CIY) and applied water depth (AWD) were determined during trial. Economic feasibility was analyzed through estimates of acquisition cost (AC), total annual cost (TAC), gross revenue (GR), net revenue (NR), benefit-cost rate (BCR), return rate (RR) and return time (RT). Subsurface drip irrigation was the most feasible in addition to using the second lowest AWD (170.3 mm) compared to the other systems. The values of CIY, AC, RR, BCR... |

Since 2001, Ifremer has implemented an economic data collection programme (EDCP) within the Data Collection Framework of the EU. It aims to obtain economic data from a sample of vessels representative of the entire French fishing fleet. This paper presents the strategies used for vessel sampling selection in the French EDCP and its implementation over several consecutive years. The approach is illustrated by the sampling plan for the fleet in the North Sea Channel Atlantic region. We show that the EDCP allows precise economic indicators such as gross revenue or fuel costs to be estimated for the whole fishing fleet, including small vessels (< 10 m), and consequently, it facilitates sound scientific advice regarding the Common Fisheries Policy. The... |

The profitability of production of pejelagarto (Atractosteus tropicus) was evaluated in two types of cultivation, in captivity conditions and in captivity conditions in association with the Mojarra Castarrica and Tilapia at the Aquaculture Production Cooperative Society "El Pejelagarto", located in Sabancuy, municipality of Carmen, Campeche, Mexico. For this purpose, the records of 10 years ago were used to calculate the following indicators of economic evaluation for the first mode of cultivation: Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit-Cost Ratio (B / C), Net Benefit-Investment (K / N) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). The results obtained for this period were: NPV = 119,825.00, B / C = 1.08, N / K = 1.88 and IRR = 25.6%. The indicators for cultivation in... |
