ABSTRACT In order to establish an optimal soybean embryonic tip regeneration system that can serve as soybean genetic transformation receptor, and be used for the study of genetic function verification, the influences of single factor on the adventitious bud of embryonic tip induction, elongation and rooting stage, are researched and compared. The single factors includes seeds soaking time, different kinds of hormones, different concentration of hormone and different concentration of sucrose. By one-way ANOVA and LSD ad hoc test , the results show that, for the embryonic tip adventitious bud induction stage, 12h is the optimal seeds soaking time, 2.0mg·L-1 is the optimal concentration of 6-Benzyl Aminopurine(6-BA), for the embryonic tip adventitious bud...

Gibberellin action on growth, development and production of tobacco Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Almeida, A. Q. de; Vieira, E. L..
This work aimed at evaluating the action of gibberellin on growth, development and production of Nicotiana tabacum L., Type Brasil-Bahia. Liquid gibberellin in doses of 0, 1.25, 3.75, 6.75 and 10.0 mL L-1 was sprayed on leaves of plants grown in greenhouse. The pelleted seeds were sowed in expanded polystyrene trays containing PlantMax®. Fifteen days after sowing (DAS), the treatments were applied. Six sprayings were made once a day, every five days. After 43 DAS, the number of leaves, length of the stem and root, dry matter of stem, leaves and roots, and leaf area were evaluated. In the field, the plants remained for 64 days and the number of total leaves, number of feasible leaves, plant height, dry matter of stem and leaves, and leaf area were...

Morphogenetic characteristics and management of Tanzania grass PAB
Santos,Patricia Menezes; Balsalobre,Marco Antônio Alvares; Corsi,Moacyr.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of grazing interval and period of evaluation over tissue turnover in Tanzania grass pastures (Panicum maximum cv. Tanzania) and to ascertain if herbage accumulation rate can be used as a criterion to establish a defoliation schedule for this grass in Southeast of Brazil. A randomized block design with a split-plot arrangement was used. The effect of three grazing intervals was evaluated within seven periods between October 1995 and September 1996. Responses monitored were leaf and stem elongation rates, leaf senescence rate, stem length, and tiller density. Net herbage accumulation rate was calculated using tissue turnover data. The grazing intervals for Tanzania grass should be around 38 days between...

Simulation of tensile tests of hemp fibre using discrete element method CIGR Journal
Chen, Ying; Sadek, Mohammad A.; Guzman, Leno; Lague, Claude; Landry, Hubert.
Abstract: Tensile strength is an important property of hemp fibre, because it determines the mechanical strength of fibre-based products such as biocomposites.  Commercial discrete element software, Particle Flow Code in Three Dimensions (PFC3D), was used to develop a numerical model which simulates tensile tests of hemp fibre.  The model can predict the tensile properties (such as strength and elongation) of a hemp fibre. In the model, a virtual hemp fibre was defined as a string of spherical balls, held together by cylindrical bonds implemented in PFC3D.  To calibrate the model, tensile data was collected for both unretted and retted hemp fibres using a commercial Instron testing system.  The average fibre diameter was 0.34 mm for the unretted fibre and...
