The European diesel fuel specification limits the biodiesel content to 7 %. It is, however, desirable to increase the amount of renewables in the transport sector; therefore blending with a higher biogenic fuel content is of interest. Blending of fuels can lead to chemical reactions between fuel components and may result in undesired products. In detail, aged biodiesel from unsaturated FAME and fossil diesel fuels can form oligomers and precipitations with a maximum in the range of B10 to B20. Precursors are oligomers that can be separated from the biodiesel or the blends in an amount of up to 20 %. These oligomers seem to have potency for chemical reactions with fuel components or the engine oil. To prevent tentative problems in the fuel filter, the... |

The study aims to develop a test platform (TP) compartment that could mimic diurnal variations in indoor climate and NH3 emission in a real pig compartment and to compare diurnal indoor climate and NH3 production between two TP compartments and a real compartment. The objectives were achieved by using a real and TP compartment followed by an ad hoc test that used two TP compartments and another real compartment. The TP had two compartments equipped with mock-up pigs as heat source and automatic urea solution spraying installation to mimic pig urination at the pen floor. The study evaluated indoor climate and NH3 production in a 4-day comparative test between a TP and a real compartment followed by a 3-day comparative test between two TP compartments and a... |

Nitrous oxide (N2O) and nitric oxide (NO) are important atmospheric trace gases, and soils (including forest soils) are a substantial source of both gases. In forests subjected to elevated N deposition these emissions are considered as indirect emissions from agricultural N sources (mainly NH3) or combustion (e.g. NOx from traffic). However, knowledge about N2O and NO exchange between forests and the atmosphere is scarce. The aim of this study was to determine N2O and NO emission rates from a deciduous forest in Belgium, receiving a high N-deposition (ca. 40 kg N ha-1 yr-1). In April 2000, the NO emission from the forested location was 17.3 (± 1.2) and 17.05 (± 0.7) ng NO-N m-2 s-1, respectively, for the soil including the organic layer and the mineral... |

This work presents a study for biomass possible to bring renewable energy in a swirling fluidized bed combustor (SFBC). The main objective of this experimental work was to study the biomass component and excess air of biomass. Palmyra palm shell, Leucaena (lam.), and Water hyacinth are using as fuel in the tests. Quartz sand of 600-850 µm and static bed height of 20 cm was used as inert bed material. For all of tests, the feed rate was fixed 45 kg/hr. for variable excess air (of 40 60 and 80%). As the experimental results, the temperature profiles in SFBC were obviously seen deviate when tests with higher excess air. In the test run, the highest cellulose (palmyra palm shell) for 80% excess air had CO and NO emissions were found in quite stable level (less... |

Sea surface salinity can be measured by microwave radiometry at L-band (1400-1427 MHz). This frequency is a compromise between sensitivity to the salinity, small atmospheric perturbation, and reasonable pixel resolution. The description of the ocean emission depends on two main factors: 1) the sea water permittivity, which is a function of salinity, temperature, and frequency, and 2) the sea surface state, which depends on the wind-induced wave spectrum, swell, and rain-induced roughness spectrum, and by the foam coverage and its emissivity. This study presents a simplified two-layer emission model for foam-covered water and the results of a controlled experiment to measure the foam emissivity as a function of salinity, foam thickness, incidence angle, and... |

Measurement of methane emission from major rice production systems is a methodology for data collection of carbon footprint from rice production system. Five major rice production systems were defined for methane emission measurement in 2011 rainy season, including upland rice, rainfed rice, irrigated rice, good agricultural practices (GAP) rice production, and organic rice. Gas samples were taken at one week interval and analyzed by Gas Chromatograph, GC-8A as soon as possible after collection. The research found that upland rice could absorb CH4 at the rate of 90 tons per crop equivalent to 2,258 of CO2. Rainfed rice production system occupied most of rice area in Thailand emitted CH4 at the rate of 58,127 tons per crop equivalent to 1,453,180 tons... |
