ACHPA: A sensor based system for automatic environmental control in hydroponics Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
SIDDIQ,Asif; TARIQ,Muhammad Owais; ZEHRA,Anum; MALIK,Salman.
Abstract The trend towards tunnel farming and hydroponic systems is increasing owing to the climatic changes as well as the need to increase crop yield. Hydroponic is a technique of growing plants without soil. Tunnel farming and hydroponic system requires controlled environmental parameters like temperature, humidity and soil moisture for better production of crops. This paper presents an effective method, named, ACHPA (Automatically Controlled Hydro-Ponic Agriculture) scheme that monitor and controls environmental parameters using sensors and controller. ACHPA provides better environmental control over traditional manual monitoring and controlling, thus yield high-quality crops. Sensor based monitoring and control system regulates the temperature and...

Application of wireless technologies to forward predict crop yields in the poultry production chain CIGR Journal
Jackman, Patrick; Ward, Shane; Brennan, Liam; Corkery, Gerard; McCarthy, Ultan.
Average bird weight is the primary measure of crop yield and is the basis for calculating payment for the grower by the wholesaler. Furthermore the profit per bird is very small. Thus very tight control of growing process is essential to ensure average bird weight is maximised. The important factors (air temperature, air humidity, Carbon Dioxide concentration and Ammonia concentration) that affect the intake of feed and water must be kept at their optimum during the progress of the growing cycle. These factors can be influenced by activating burners and opening the vents on walls of the growing house. It then follows that the burning and venting strategy will be influential on the average bird weight of the crop. Currently the burning and venting strategy...

COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS (CFD) APPLICATION FOR VENTILATION STUDIES IN BROILER HOUSES REA
Curi,Thayla M. R. de C.; Moura,Daniella J. de; Massari,Juliana M.; Mesquita,Márcio; Pereira,Danilo F..
ABSTRACT With the recent increase in the number of acclimatized broiler houses in Brazil, design and adaptation of facilities to withstand the tropical weather conditions enabling the maintenance of ideal conditions without increasing costs have been major challenges. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ventilation system in solid-wall broiler houses using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The research was carried out in the city of Amparo - SP (Brazil). The facility consisted of a broiler house enclosed by masonry sidewalls with tunnel ventilation equipped with exhaust fans (air outlet) and cooling pads (air inlet). The following variables were collected: wind speed and dry bulb temperature over 27 equidistant points inside the house at bird...

Microbiological monitoring of clean rooms in development of vaccines BJM
Utescher,Carla Lílian de Agostini; Franzolin,Marcia Regina; Trabulsi,Luiz Rachid; Gambale,Valderez.
The aim of the present work was to evaluate an environmental monitoring program for clean rooms, or classified environments, involved in the filling and quality control of biological products produced by Butantan Institute, São Paulo, Brazil. This monitoring established the quantification, characterization and seasonality of the microorganisms in air and operators and, moreover, determined the alert and action limits. The total detectable microbial number showed some contrasts in installed air purification systems and in the operational impact on adopted procedures. The typical microbial population consisted of Staphylococcus sp, Micrococcus sp, Bacillus sp and Penicillium sp. The highest microorganism concentration occurred during summer and springtime....

Positioning of sensors for control of ventilation systems in broiler houses: a case study Scientia Agricola
Curi,Thayla Morandi Ridolfi de Carvalho; Conti,Dante; Vercellino,Rimena do Amaral; Massari,Juliana Maria; Moura,Daniella Jorge de; Souza,Zigomar Menezes de; Montanari,Rafael.
ABSTRACT Ventilation systems are incorporated at intensive poultry farms to control environment conditions and thermal comfort of broilers. The ventilation system operates based on environmental data, particularly measured by sensors of temperature and relative humidity. Sensors are placed at different positions of the facility. Quality, number and positioning of the sensors are critical factors to achieve an efficient performance of the system. For this reason, a strategic positioning of the sensors associated to controllers could support the maintenance and management of the microclimate inside the facility. This research aims to identify the three most representative points for the positioning of sensors in order to support the ventilation system during...

The design of an in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratory and its importance in risk prevention: applicability of UV radiation BABT
Izquierdo,Enrique Gea; Velasco,Carlos Ángel Benavides; Escudero,José Vicente Maeso; Rodríguez,Antonio García.
This study addressed the environmental control of an IVF laboratory and the potential repercussions that the presence of certain physical, chemical and biological agents could have on workers' health or on the tasks they carried out. The design of the laboratory and its facilities contributed to an improvement in work quality and minimised the environmental-related risks. The preventive measures adopted had an influence on the carried out actions.

The optimum design of the air-conditioning system of a plant factory with a high-efficient water use and the effect of its higher humidity condition on growth in plants CIGR Journal
Matsuo, Seiji.
The authors designed the optimal air-conditioning system of the greenhouse which minimizes the water and energy by computer simulation. In this design, a heat balance model and water balance model in the green house were constructed and they were considered to be constrained conditions. Furthermore, in order to evaluate the influence of the plant on this condition, the effect of higher relative humidity levels on the growth chambers of cucumber seedlings were also investigated. Three higher relative humidity conditions, RH74.5%, 86% and 97.8%, were taken into consideration in the experiment. Consequently, it was useful to introduce the fog cooling system, thermal storage mediums, ice from the desalination process and gas absorption refrigerator with...

Understanding what controls the spatial distribution of fish populations using a multi-model approach ArchiMer
Planque, Benjamin; Loots, Christophe; Petitgas, Pierre; Lindstrom, Ulf; Vaz, Sandrine.
Understanding and predicting the distribution of organisms in heterogeneous environments lies at the heart of ecology. The spatial distribution of fish populations observed in the wild results from the complex interactions of multiple controls both external or internal to the fish populations. Whilst species distribution models (SDMs) have been mostly concerned with static description of species distribution as a function of environmental constraints, models of animal movements (MAMs) have focussed on the dynamic nature of spatial distribution of groups of individuals under a number of constraints external and internal to the population. Besides SDMs and MAMs, modelling the spatial distribution of fish populations can be achieved by models that are...

Validation of a liquid chromatography ultraviolet method for determination of herbicide diuron and its metabolites in soil samples Anais da ABC (AABC)
FELICIO,ANA LUCIA S.M.; MONTEIRO,ALESSANDRA M.; ALMEIDA,MARIANA B.; MADEIRA,TIAGO B.; NIXDORF,SUZANA L.; YABE,MARIA JOSEFA S..
ABSTRACT Diuron is one of the most widely herbicide used worldwide, which can undergo degradation producing three primary metabolites: 3,4-dichlorophenylurea, 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1-methylurea, and 3,4-dichloroaniline. Since the persistence of diuron and its by-products in ecosystems involves risk of toxicity to environment and human health, a reliable quantitative method for simultaneous monitoring of these compounds is required. Hence, a simple method without preconcentration step was validated for quantitation of diuron and its main metabolites by high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. Separation was achieved in less than 11 minutes using a C18 column, mobile phase composed of acetonitrile and water (45:55 v/v) at 0.86 mL...
