A viscoelastic-viscoplastic model to describe creep and strain rate effects on the mechanical behaviour of adhesively-bonded assemblies ArchiMer
Ilioni, Alin; Badulescu, C.; Carrere, N.; Davies, Peter; Thevenet, D..
Most of the adhesives used in the marine industry are polymers with a mechanical behaviour which is strongly influenced by the strain rate. Therefore, it is important to predict with accuracy their viscous behaviour. To describe their mechanical behaviour in a bonded joint, a viscoelastic-viscoplastic constitutive law is proposed here. The viscous effects on the elastic behaviour is described using a spectral distribution, which divides the viscous strain as the sum of the strains of several viscous mechanisms, each of them with a different characteristic time and weight. The viscoplastic component of the model permits a better description of the strong non-linear behaviour of the adhesives. The parameters of the constitutive law are obtained using an...

Analysis of the moisture effect on the mechanical behaviour of an adhesively bonded joint under proportional multi-axial loads ArchiMer
Arnaud, N.; Creac'Hcadec, R.; Cognard, J. Y.; Davies, Peter; Le Gac, Pierre-yves.
The objective of the study is to identify the 3D behaviour of an adhesive in an assembly, and to take into account the effect of ageing in a marine environment. To that end, three different tests were employed. Gravimetric analyses were used to determine the water diffusion kinetics in the adhesive. Bulk tensile tests were performed to highlight the effects of humid ageing on the adhesive behaviour. Modified Arcan tests were performed for several ageing times to obtain the experimental database which was necessary to identify constitutive models. A Mahnken-Schlimmer type model was determined for the unaged state according to a procedure developed in a previous study. This identification used inverse techniques. It was based on the unaged modified Arcan...

Dimethyldioxirane oxidation of exocyclic (E,E)-cinnamylideneketones IPB - Escola Superior Agrária
Lévai, Albert; Silva, Artur; Santos, Clementina M.M.; Cavaleiro, José; Jeko, József.
Exocyclic (E,E)-cinnamylideneketones were oxidized by an excess of isolated dimethyldioxirane (DMDO, in acetone solution) at room temperature, providing diastereomeric mixtures of the α,β:γ,δ-diepoxides. In the case of derivatives bearing an ortho-nitrocinnamylidene moiety, α,β-monoepoxides were also isolated as minor products. The structures of all new compounds and the stereochemistry of the monoepoxides and diepoxide diastereomers were established by NMR studies.
