A field experiment was carried out in 2010-2011 crop years in the experimental area of the Centro de Ciências Agrárias of the Universidade Federal de Roraima, in Boa Vista, Roraima, Brazil. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nitrogen availability on the concentrations of N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S in cassava, cultivar Aciolina, in different harvest times. A randomized block design was used in split-plot, with four replications. Dosages of N in cover were applied randomly on the plots (0, 30, 60, 150 and 330 kg ha-1), and in the subplot the harvest dates 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270 and 300 days after emergence (DAE). The vegetal material was collected, ground and then underwent an analysis for determination of nutrients concentrations in the leaves (N,... |

One approach to the problem of aquaculture consists in a simple acceleration of natural processes in extended areas of salt or brackish water. From this point of view, the authors have been interested in the effect of moderate fertilization on natural communities . A first series of experiments (8) was made in an external tank of 3000 liters. After fertilization, the development of flowering diatoms was obtained each time. The time of latency, the level of production reached, the composition of the final communities is to some extent variable, but bacterial development may be neglected. In contrast to earlier results, obtained in small volumes of water, these experiments have always led to simplified communities mostly dominated by the diatom... |

The quality of oyster spermatozoa has become an issue for modern aquaculture. However, reliable protocols used to assess gamete quality are lacking. The aim of this work is to define a standardised experimental fertilisation protocol for Pacific oyster oocytes. Six experiments have been carried out in this study. The optimal conditions for Pacific oyster experimental fertilisation have been defined: (1) oocytes can be conserved in seawater for at least 4 h before fertilisation. (2) oocyte concentration: 100-1000 ml(-1) seawater, (3) fertilisation volume: 10-100 nil, (4) spermatozoa: oocyte ratio: 400 to maintain discriminating conditions, (5) gamete contact time: longer than 10 mill and (6) fertilisation and incubation temperatures: both 19 degrees C. The... |
