ABSTRACT Hydrological models are becoming more and more widespread, mainly due to their capacity to simulate the impact of environmental changes on water resources. In this way, the aim of this study was to calibrate and validate the SWAT model for the soil and climatic conditions of the Mucuri River Basin, located in the Northeast region of the States of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The SWAT-CUP software module SUFI2 was used to analyze the sensitivity, calibration and validation of the model. The calibration was performed in an intermediate fluviometric station and the validation in five other located: three upstream, one downstream and one independent from the calibration point. It was evidenced for the study area that the parameters referring to the basic... |

Abstract Given the lack of studies on subsurface drip irrigation in sugarcane plantations, there has been a growing demand for such information, mainly regarding soil solution profile and availability to plants. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of soil-water solution distribution on qualitative and quantitative traits of sugarcane irrigated by subsurface drip irrigation at two flows (1.6 and 3.5 L h−1). For each application rate, four PVC containers (500 L) were used and filled with sandy soil, where a set of 36 TDR probes was installed. Drippers were placed at a depth of 0.30 m. Irrigation was managed based on TDR daily measurements, maintaining soil moisture within the root zone at field capacity. Sugarcane variety used was RB 845210, being... |

ABSTRACT: Quantification of runoff rate is an onerous task with non-automated devices; it requires a lot of manual labor to perform measurements. In this study, an automatic device to quantify the surface runoff rate from plots with a small area was developed and tested. The prototype was based on the tipping bucket technique and built with reused materials. Its performance was tested in the laboratory and a calibration curve was developed to improve measurement accuracy. The device can be used for automatic quantification of surface runoff in small plots, with a flow rate of less than 750 × 103 mm3 min-1. The device can be built with different dimensions to measure different flow rates. In that case, the error measurements and calibration curve must be... |
