This study analyzed the physical characteristics, number of seeds per kilogram, seed weight, germination characteristics, germination percentage, germination energy, germination period and the germination vigor of sweet chestnut seeds from two forest plantations in the Los Ríos region of Chile. No significant differences were found in any of the characteristics related to the collection zone. Following the international classification systems for seeds of this species, the values of the physical characteristics allow us to classify these seeds as a small caliber or "chestnut". The values of the germination characteristics (>80%) demonstrate a good germination for chestnut seeds of forest origin. |

Cereus jamacaru is a widespread Cactaceae of northeast Brazil, largely used as cattle food, and as ornamental and medicinal plant. Despite its distinguished importance, until now, there has been little information about the physiological aspects involved on its germination. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of light and temperature interaction on the seed germination and seedling establishment of this plant. The evaluated variables were germination percentage at 7 (% G7) and at 14 days after imbibition (% G14), germination average time index (GSI), germination average time (GAT), germination accumulated frequency (GAF), seedling dry mass and height. The highest % G14 and GSI were at 25 ºC in white light, whereas the highest GAT values... |

Jussara palm (Euterpe edulis) is a native plant of the Atlantic rainy forest, with large economic interest. The species is shade-tolerant and currently it is restricted to certain areas of difficult access. The most effective way to reintroduce it into the environment or increase the population density for conservation and commercial exploitation is promoting seed propagation. Considering that the jussara palm is an ombrophylous species, this experiment aimed to simulate forest conditions, with different shade levels, to analyze its influence on seed germination. After processing the seeds (depulping), 500 seeds were sown in containers (20 x 30 x 8 cm) filled with forest ground and grown in five shade levels (0, 20, 40,60, and 80%, simulated using black... |

The experimental study design was used to examine the effects of accelerated aging on deterioration of seed quality and electrolyte leakage of cucumber seeds. The original cucumber seeds had 99 germination percentage. The cucumber seeds were taken to accelerated aging process; in aging chamber with constant temperature 450C and 100% of relative humidity for 0-21 days. The seeds were taken every three days for 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21 days and tested of seed quality. After that, the seeds were divided into 2 lots. The first lot was examined for conductivity values and measured K+, Ca2+, Na+, and Mg2+ leakage. The second lot was examined seed quality under laboratory and green-house conditions. Additionally, The results were shown that after 6th days of... |

In commercial corn production, small seed size is discarded from the seed lot and used as the animal feed, resulting in less profit to the seed industry. Therefore, the objective of this research was to increase seed size by seed pelleting methods. In this study, the types of filler pelleting materials and ratio of binder materials were investigated. The experiment was conducted at Seed Quality Test Laboratory of Seed Processing Plant, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University. Small seed size of hybrid corn that retained on grade 14/64” diameter sieve perforations were pelleted with seven different types and ratios of fillers (vermiculite, bentonite, pumice, calcium sulphate, calcium carbonate, charcoal and coconut) with four different types of binders... |
