Effect of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) extract on weight, hematology and cell-mediated immune response of newborn goat kids JARTS
Shokrollahi, Borhan; Amini, Fardin; Fakour, Shahin; Amiri Andi, Mohammad.
This study aimed at evaluating the effects of different levels of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) extract on growth rate, hematology and cell-mediated immune response in Markhoz newborn goat kids. Twenty four goat kids (aged 7 +/- 3 days) were randomly allotted to four groups with six replicates. The groups included: control, T1, T2 and T3 groups which received supplemented-milk with 0, 100, 200 and 400mg aqueous rosemary extract per kg of live body weight per day for 42 days. Body weights of kids were measured weekly until the end of the experiment. On day 42, 10 ml blood samples were collected from each kid through the jugular vein. Cell-mediated immune response was assessed through the double skin thickness after intradermal injection of...

Effect of the concentrate supplementation on composition of the extrusa, feed intake, digestibility and N balance of goats grazing in Caatinga native vegetation. Repositório Alice
MEDEIROS, A. N.; ALVES, A. R.; ANDRADE, A. P.; FRIGHETTO, R. T. S.; SILVA, M. J. S.; SILVA, D. S. da.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of concentrate supplementation on the performance of goat kids grazing in the native vegetation of semiarid region of Brazil(Caatinga). The variables evaluated were digestibility of extrusa (food collected by thefistulated animals), weight gain, feed intake, digestibility and N balance. Four castratedindigenous male goats (2.5 years old and 22.5 ± 4 kg of body weight (BW)) and fistulatedwere randomly assigned in Latin square design for evaluation of the chemical composition and in vitro digestibility of the extrusa. For determination of weight gain, feed intake and digestibility, thirty-six castrated male goats (five months old, 15.7 ± 0.78 kg of BW) were arranged randomly in four supplementation...

Metabolic stress and reproductive features in post-partum goats supplemented for a long period with detoxified castor meal as the source of dietary nitrogen Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Silva,L.M.; Oliveira,C.H.A.; Silva,A.M.; Montenegro,A.R.; Fernandes,C.C.L.; Silva,C.M.G.; Rossetto,R.; Rondina,D..
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the effect of detoxified castor meal on the reproductive performance, metabolic stress, milk production, and kid development in peripartum goats. The diet of the animals were with (DCM, n= 20) or without (WDCM, n= 21) detoxified castor meal during the entire gestation and until weaning, 60 days post-birth. No differences were observed in the gestation period, litter size, rate of multiple births, and mortality between the two groups. The postpartum plasma concentrations of progesterone remained below 1ng/mL in all animals, thus, confirming the absence of active corpora lutea. The thickness of sternum adipose tissue and loin area, levels of urea and cholesterol, milk production, and daily weight gain in the kids were low in the...
