‘Gala’ apple trees have low fruit set in restrictive pollination situations, being an obstacle to the achievement of high production rates in orchards in southern Brazil, which can be minimized by the use of growth regulators. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of thidiazuron concentrations in ‘Royal Gala’ apple fruiting and production, grown in mild winter conditions. The experiment was conducted during the 2011/2012, 2012/2013 and 2013/2014 crop years in Fraiburgo, SC, on ‘Royal Gala’ apple trees in Marubakaido rootstock M9 with filter. In all evaluation cycles, the experimental design was a randomized block with factorial arrangement (6x2) with six TDZ concentrations and two application forms, with six replicates, and the experimental unit... |

The effects of paclobutrazol on the morphological and growth characteristics of caco (Theobroma cacao L.) seedlings were evaluated. The experiment was arranged in four randomized blocks in a split-plot lay-out. Main plots were assigned to growth stages (mature cotyledonary leaves, first, second and third flushes) and sub-plots to paclobutrazol dosages (0,30, and 60 ppm). Periodic measurements were taken of stem diameter, height and leaf number. At the end of the experiment leaf area and dry weights of root, stem and leaves were obtained. In general, paclobutrazol decreased diameter, height, leaf number and leaf area in all concentrations. The effect depended on concentration and stage of growth. Dry weight of all plant parts decreased with the application... |

ABSTRACT Vernonia condensata Baker has been traditionally used in folk medicine for the treatment of several inflammatory and infectious processes. Overexploitation of this plant species has drastically reduced its population in its natural habitat (Cerrado). Therefore, tissue culture tools, such as somatic embryogenesis, can be used as an alternative method for rapid and large-scale plant regeneration. The objectives of this study were to induce callogenesis in Vernonia condensata from different types of explants and to evaluate the structural aspects of the development of pro-embryogenic masses of this species by means of histological analyses. The formation of calli was induced from leaf explants and internodal segments, which were inoculated in EME... |

Piper permucronatum is a perennial shrub, a medicinal plant native to the Amazon Rainforest. Traditionally, the tea of its leaves is used to combat menstrual and intestinal cramps, stomach pain, digestive problems, diarrhea, hemorrhage, and nausea. Its leaf?s essential oil is effective against Aedes aegypti larvae; its flavones and flavanones have a fungicidal effect against Clamidosporium cladosporioides and C. sphaerospermum; its hexanic extract is effective against Leishmania amazonensis. The objective of this study was to provide a protocol for callus induction from P. permucronatum leaves and an identification of the callus growth pattern, focusing on the deceleration phase, when the callus cells must be subcultured into liquid medium in order to... |
