This paper is a synonymic catalogue of the 18 species of the genus Seladonia Robertson, 1918 (Apoidea: Halictidae) from sub-Saharan Africa. Two new species are described: S. cyanella spec. nov., a small blue endemic species of the Yemeno-Erythrean area^S. kuhlmanni spec. nov., an endemic species of the species rich South African Karoo. Lectotypes are designated for Halictus atroviridis Cameron, 1906, H. capensis Friese, 1909, H. jucundus Smith, 1853 and H. chalybaeus Friese, 1925. |

During our studies of various collections of Halictinae from New-Guinea and Bismarck Archipelago, 54 species were found: 2 Sphecodes (subgenera Sphecodes and Callosphecodes), 3 Pachyhalictus, 1 Urohalictus, 3 Lasioglossum (subgenera Parasphecodes, Nesohalictus and Ctenonomia) and 45 Homalictus (5 Papualictus and 40 Homalictus s.str.). Among the Homalictus, 21 new species are described: H. micheneri, H. altissimus, H. filiferreus, H. flavipes, H. flammeus, H. goilalaensis, H. gressitti, H. malgiensis, H. minutus, H. morobeensis, H. pilositarsis, H. rufiscopa, H. rufopurpureus, H. scabrosus, H. scutolactescens, H. scutopruinescens, H. spinosus, H. strigilalius, H. subsphecodes, H. trigoniformis and H. wauensis. The Homalictus are classified into four groups... |

ABSTRACT Paroxystoglossa is a solitary, ground-nesting bee genus. It was revised in 1960 and currently includes nine species from Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. The objectives of this contribution are to provide a morphological phylogeny for the group and to describe two new species: P. levigata n.sp. and P. mourella n.sp. Paroxystoglossa is monophyletic and three species groups are recognized, jocasta species group: (P. mourella n.sp., (P. brachycera, (P. jocasta, P. barbata))), transversa species group: (P. transversa, P. levigata n.sp.), and crossotos species group: (P. mimetica, (P. crossotos, P. seabrai, (P. andromache, P. spiloptera))). The crossotos and transversa species groups were considered as sister groups. Interestingly Paroxystoglossa... |

Phylogeny and revision of the bee genus Rhinocorynura Schrottky (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Augochlorini), with comments on its female cephalic polymorphism. A taxonomic revision and a phylogeny for the species of Rhinocorynura are provided. Six species are recognized: R. briseis, R. crotonis, R. inflaticeps and R. vernoniae stat. nov., the latter removed from synonymy with R. inflaticeps, in addition to two newly described species, R. brunnea sp. nov. and R. viridis sp. nov. Lectotypes for Halictus crotonis Ducke, 1906 and Halictus inflaticeps Ducke, 1906 are hereby designated. Another available name included in Rhinocorynura, Corynuropsis ashmeadi Schrottky, 1909, is removed from the genus and treated as species inquerenda in Augochlorini. Rhinocorynura is... |

ABSTRACT We describe a new species of the bee genus Xenochlora Engel, Brooks & Yanega, 1997, X. meridionalis sp. nov., based on a single female collected in the coastal forests of southeastern Brazil, in the state of Espírito Santo. The disjunct distribution exhibited by Xenochlora, with species in northern South America and in the Atlantic Forest of eastern Brazil, is discussed in light of current knowledge about other taxa with similar distribution pattern. |
