Vinte lotes distintos de sementes de girassol foram submetidos ao envelhecimento rápido a 42°C e 100% de umidade relativa, por 0, 24, 48, 72, 96 e 120 horas, com o objetivo de determinar o tempo de exposição que melhor discriminasse os lotes pelas suas repostas de germinação após o envelhecimento. Os resultados mostraram que os lotes exibiram grandes diferenças entre si quanto ao grau de resistência às condições desfavoráveis impostas pelo envelhecimento rápido, inclusive aqueles com porcentagens comparáveis de germinação inicial. Esse comportamento variável não pôde ser estimado pelo teste inicial de germinação. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the initial growth of sunflower seedlings under different concentrations of sanitary landfill leachate, considering the feasibility of its use as source of nutrients for agricultural production. Biometric and vigor variables were analyzed through the measurements of collar diameter, shoot height, number of leaves and shoot and root fresh and dry matters, from January to February 2015. The sunflower is among the top five crops in the world for the production of edible vegetable oil. The species displays rustic behavior, with an excellent edaphic and climatic adaptability index, being able to be cultivated throughout Brazil. Seed quality is the key to increasing production and productivity in the sunflower. The objective of this work was to monitor the viability of sunflower seeds with a view to their conservation when stored in different environments and packaging. Flower production in semi-hydroponic systems is a profitable alternative for generating income in communities of small farmers in the semiarid region of Brazil. This is because such a system of cultivation relates aspects of the climate, water and soil of the region, favoring the production of crops. In this work, the use of wastewater as a source of water and nutrients was studied, renewed at four time intervals (daily and every two, three and four days), and of three growth substrates (coconut fiber, sand and sugarcane bagasse), in the production and post-harvest period of sunflowers.
