Sunflower is considered a temperate zone crop but it can perform well under varying climate conditions. In this context, the aim of this study was to evaluate the growth of ornamental sunflower cultivars for cutting in two growing seasons in semiarid conditions. Sunflowers cultivars were sown in a randomized complete design in a split plot system, with four blocks. Six cultivars were evaluated (?Bonito de outono sortido?, ?Sol noturno?, ?Sol vermelho?, ?Jardim amarelo alto?, ?Sunflower F1 sunbright supreme? and ?Sunflower F1 vincents choice?) in the main plots and two growing seasons in the subplots (GS1 ? hot weather and GS2 ? mild weather). Plant emergence percentage, plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves and internal inflorescence diameter were... |

The relationships between (1) leaf biomass and morphology (lamina area and petiole and lamina inclination), (2) petiole's mechanical and structural properties, and (3) the vertical light gradient inside the crop's canopy were studied in field grown sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) plants, maintained at optimum soil water and mineral levels. At flowering, incident photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) was measured at the top of the canopy and on individual leaves using a quantum sensor. The fraction of direct incident radiation which passed through the canopy reaching each individual leaf was then calculated. Individual petiole and lamina inclination angles (iaPetiole and iaLamina, respectively) were measured from sequential digital images. These were taken... |

The present study aimed to evaluate the agronomic performance of the sunflower crop irrigated with treated domestic wastewater and normal water (well-water) in a inceptisol of Apodi, State of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block experimental design, consisting of five treatments and five replications, using the H-251 sunflower cultivar from Embrapa. The treatments consisted of the application of five proportions of wastewater/well-water (T1 - 100% wastewater; T2 - 75% wastewater and 25% well water, T3 - 50% wastewater and 50% well-water, T4 - 25% wastewater and 75% well-water and T5 - 100% well-water plus chemical fertilizer, control). The variables such as plant height, leaf number, diameter of stem and the head,... |

The use of different forage species in a mixed pasture is recommended to improve forage mass and soil characteristics. However, the frequency of harvest (e.g.; grazing or hay) can increase the forage removal during the off-season, and affect the residual forage mass to the following crop, especially in the non-till crop-livestock systems. We aimed to assess the harvest frequency effect in a mixed pasture compounded by Urochloa ruziziensis, pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan ?Super N?); Sunflower (Helianthus annuus), and Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) on the residual forage mass at the Embrapa Agrossilvipastoril, in Sinop, MT, Brazil. The mixed were planted on March 10, 2020, after the soybean harvest. The experimental design was a randomized complete block design... |
