A new species, Zanchius stami Van Doesburg (Insecta, Heteroptera, Miridae, Orthotylinae) from Syria, Deir-ez-Zor, is described and illustrated. Late eggs taken from the female abdomen have a peculiar chorionic process. It was found living (predaciously?) on cotton plants. It is compared with the closely related Z. alatanus Hoberlandt, 1956. Type specimens are deposited in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, two paratypes in the Národní Muzeum, Praha. |

We recognize two species in Neomegalotomus, N. parvus (Westwood), the type species; and N. rufipes (Westwood). The two species are redescribed from type specimens, and are keyed. We synonymize the following species with Neomegalotomus parvus: N. simplex (Westwood), N. latifascia (Berg), and N. pallescens (Stål) (all new synonymies). We synonymize N. jamaicensis (Westwood) with N. rufipes (new synonymy). The type specimens of all species hitherto placed in the genus are also redescribed, except those of N. debilis (Walker) and N. vicinus (Westwood). N. parvus occurs from México through Central America into northern Argentina and east into Venezuela and adjacent Caribbean islands. N. rufipes is widespread in the Caribbean south towards Venezuela. The two... |

The Indo-Papuan family Velocipedidae Bergroth, 1891 (Heteroptera) is revised; a new genus, 19 new species and four new subspecies are described. Costomedes gen. nov. (type species: C. gressitti spec. nov.) comprises 11 new species: C. cheesmanae from New Guinea, C. fakfakensis from New Guinea, C. gazelle from New Britain and Bismarck Archipelago, C. gressitti from New Guinea, C. heissi from Ceram, C. hirsutus from New Guinea, C. karimui from New Guinea (including one new subspecies: C. karimui eliptamin from New Guinea), C. morobensis from New Guinea, C. sedlaceki from New Guinea, C. solomonensis from the Solomon Islands and C. toxopeusi from New Guinea. The following eight new species are described in the genus Scotomedes Stål, 1873: S. distanti from... |

This is the first record on the invasion of the Neotropical brown stink bug, Euschistus heros (F.) in Paraná County (latitude 31º 51' 9.6" S, longitude 60º 32' 11.2" W), Entre Ríos province, Argentina. Five adults were intercepted in 2009/2010, one in crop residues and four on soybean fields. The expanding range in the distribution of E. heros in the Southern Hemisphere is believed to be due to the increased commercial trade among countries, increase in the area cultivated with soybean, and the adoption of no-tillage cropping systems. |

Some biological, morphological and behavioral aspects of adults Podisus sculptus Distant, 1889 (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) fed with Bombyx mori Linnaeus, 1758 (Lepidoptera, Bombycidae) (fourth and fifth instar caterpillars) and Tenebrio molilor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae) (third and fourth instar caterpillars) were studied and no differences were found between these two preys. Average values for the parameters studied were: period of pre-oviposition (6.14 days), oviposition (8.57 days) and pos-oviposition (3.57 days); number of eggs/female (97.71); number of postures/female (3.96); female weight (68.90mg) and male weight (47.43mg). Podisus sculptus has brownish color, and four yellow spots in the scutelum: one close to the head and three... |

Giant water bugs (aquatic Heteroptera), Belostoma dilatatum (Dufour, 1863), were collected in rice plantation water canals, in the Municipality of Eldorado do Sul, outskirts of Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. Five specimens were dissected with the objective of finding metacercariae of digenetic trematodes. Four of them (80%) were positive for metacercarial cysts of Stomylotrema vicarium Braun, 1901. The intensities of infection varied from 1 to 16 metacercariae per host (average 7.6). The cysts were whitish, translucent, and found loose among the viscera, in the abdominal and thoracic cavities. Belostoma dilatatum is a new host record for metacercarial cysts of stomylotrematid digenetic trematodes and this is the first time that... |

In the present paper, 27 chromatic patterns of the specie Pachycoris torridus (Scopoli, 1772) were grouped and three new patterns are described. Because of this high phenotypic polymorphism, P. torridus already been registered eight times as a new specie, highlighting the importance of the application of different tools to assist in taxonomy of this hemipterous of economic importance. |

The assassin bug genus Rasahus Amyot & Serville (Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Peiratinae) comprises 26 Neotropical species. A cladistic analysis of the genus was carried out using 63 characters from external morphology, body vestiture, and male and female genitalia, with the species considered as terminal taxa. The analysis yielded 149 equally parsimonious cladograms, each with 206 steps, CI = 0.35, and RI = 0.60; the successive weighting procedure resulted in eight cladograms (CI = 0.79 and RI = 0.91). In the strict consensus cladogram, two major clades are delimited: one comprising the species R. rufiventris, R. hamatus, R. arcitenens, R. arcuiger, R. amapaensis, R. thoracicus, R. biguttatus, R. argentinensis, R. limai, R. grandis, and R. angulatus; and... |
