Creep of a C-S-H gel: a micromechanical approach Anais da ABC (AABC)
Sanahuja,Julien; Dormieux,Luc.
Both clays and calcium silicate hydrates(the main hydration products of Portland cements) exhibit a microstructure made up of lamellar particles. The microscopic mechanism responsible for the macroscopic creep of such materials is often described as the relative sliding of the sheets. This paper proposes a micromechanical approach to estimate the macroscopic creep behavior rising from this microscopic mechanism. The asymptotic evolution of creep at both short- and long-term is especially investigated. More precisely, a non-vanishing initial elastic strain is retrieved. At long-term, a threshold on porosity appears. At lower porosities, the creep evolution admits an asymptotic strain. At higher porosities, it admits an asymptotic strain rate.

Electro-osmosis in kaolinite with pH-dependent surface charge modelling by homogenization Anais da ABC (AABC)
Lima,Sidarta A.; Murad,Marcio A.; Moyne,Christian; Stemmelen,Didier.
A new three-scale model to describe the coupling between pH-dependent flows and transient ion transport, including adsorption phenomena in kaolinite clays, is proposed. The kaolinite is characterized by three separate nano/micro and macroscopic length scales. The pore (micro)-scale is characterized by micro-pores saturated by an aqueous solution containing four monovalent ions and charged solid particles surrounded by thin electrical double layers. The movement of the ions is governed by the Nernst-Planck equations, and the influence of the double layers upon the flow is dictated by the Helmholtz-Smoluchowski slip boundary condition on the tangential velocity. In addition, an adsorption interface condition for the Na+ transportis postulated to capture its...

Homogenization of scatterometer wind retrievals ArchiMer
Bentamy, Abderrahim; Grodsky, Semyon A.; Elyouncha, Anis; Chapron, Bertrand; Desbiolles, Fabien.
Surface winds (10 m equivalent neutral wind velocity) from scatterometer missions since 1992 to present require homogenization to meet the requirements for oceanic and atmospheric climate data records. Sources of differences between winds retrieved from different scatterometer measurements mainly arise from calibration/validation procedures used for each scatterometer and differences in measurement physics. In this study, we focus on the calibration/validation component of the European Remote Sensing Satellite (ERS)-1 and ERS-2 wind speed biases. ERS-1 and ERS-2 data, named as WNF products, are from the Institut Français de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la MER (IFREMER). In addition to WNF data, the newly calibrated ERS-2 products provided by the...

Interpretation of the stiffness and permeability of Sand-Kaolin mixtures in the framework of homogenization Anais da ABC (AABC)
Boutin,Claude; Kacprzak,Gregory; Doanh,Thiep.
This study deals with the behaviour of mixtures of sand and saturated kaolin paste considered as composite materials made of permeable and deformable (with non-linear behaviour) matrix (the kaolin paste) with rigid and impervious inclusions (the sand grains). Oedometric and permeability tests conducted on such mixtures highlight the key role of the state of the clay paste, and show the existence of a threshold of sand grain concentration above which a structuring effect influences both modulus and permeability. At the light of these experiments, the usual and tangent homogenization process (with simplifying assumptions to make the problem manageable) has been applied to estimate the mixture permeability and tangent compressibility. Qualitative and...

Multiphysical modelling of fluid transport through osteo-articular media Anais da ABC (AABC)
Lemaire,Thibault; Naili,Salah; Sansalone,Vittorio.
In this study, a multiphysical description of fluid transport through osteo-articular porous media is presented. Adapted from the model of Moyne and Murad, which is intended to describe clayey materials behaviour, this multiscale modelling allows for the derivation of the macroscopic response of the tissue from microscopical information. First the model is described. At the pore scale, electrohydrodynamics equations governing the electrolyte movement are coupled with local electrostatics (Gauss-Poisson equation), and ionic transport equations. Using a change of variables and an asymptotic expansion method, the macroscopic description is carried out. Results of this model are used to show the importance of couplings effects on the mechanotransduction of...

Statistical optimization of dithranol-loaded solid lipid nanoparticles using factorial design BJPS
Gambhire,Makarand Suresh; Bhalekar,Mangesh Ramesh; Gambhire,Vaishali Makarand.
This study describes a 3² full factorial experimental design to optimize the formulation of dithranol (DTH) loaded solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) by the pre-emulsion ultrasonication method. The variables drug: lipid ratio and sonication time were studied at three levels and arranged in a 3² factorial design to study the influence on the response variables particle size and % entrapment efficiency (%EE). From the statistical analysis of data polynomial equations were generated. The particle size and %EE for the 9 batches (R1 to R9) showed a wide variation of 219-348 nm and 51.33- 71.80 %, respectively. The physical characteristics of DTH-loaded SLN were evaluated using a particle size analyzer, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction. The...

The effect of homogenization on texture of reduced dry matter processed cheese Ciênc. Tecnol. Aliment.
MOHAMMADI,Ali; FADAEI,Vajiheh.
Abstract Since the cost of processed cheese is high in Iran, in this research we studied the effect of homogenization at the pressures of 100, 150 and 200 bar on the quality and texture of processed cheese followed by reducing dry matter. Results showed no significant difference between the pH and dry matter of processed cheese samples at different pressures (p > 0.05). Also, different pressures of homogenization had no significant effect on overall acceptability (p > 0.05). With increasing homogenization pressure, texture improved significantly (p < 0.05). Homogenization treatment at the pressure of 200 bar had the highest influence on the improvement of the processed cheese texture.
