Annual skeletal extension of two reef-building corals from the Colombian Caribbean Sea OceanDocs
Charry, H.; Alvarado, E.M.; Sánchez, J.A..
The skeletal growth of the scleractinian corals Diploria labyrinthiformis (Linnaeus 1758) and Montastraea annularis (Ellis and Solander 1786) from Isla Grande (north of Rosario islands), Colombian Caribbean, was determined from annual extension increments revealed by X-radiography of 4-6 mm thick slabs obtained along the axis of maximum growth. The skeletal extension average rate for the last 22 years for D. labyrinthiformis was 3.8 mm year-1 (SE 0.10; N = 87). The correlation between growth of D. labyrinthiformi s and hours of sunlight was significantly negative. The annual variances of sunlight enhanced annual statistically significant differences of growth in this species. M. annularis showed an average extension growth of 10.6 mm year-1 (SE 0.32; N =...

Garciarena, A.D.; Perrotta, R.G..
Length growth parameters were calculated and total length-weight and total length-fork length relationships, which showed no differences between sexes, were fitted for the South Atlantic bream (Seriolella porosa). Length at first maturity was also calculated. The results were as follows: L (mm)= 490.96k years-¹) = 0.154; t0 (years)= -3.915; W(g) = 4*10-6)*TL³.1989; FL(mm) = 0.8917*TL1.0006);L sub 50 (mm)= 290.61. Natural mortality was estimated at 0.274 and limit age at 11 years. Samples were taken during research surveys carried out in 1999 and 2000 in the Argentine Sea (Atlantic SW). Sagittae otoliths of 374 specimen were used for age determination. Total fish length ranged from 226 mm to 550 mm (1-14 years). Commercial landing data of trawl fleets for...

Müller, M.I.; Radonic, M.; López, A.V.; Bambill, G.A..
The results of the final on-growing (500 g to 1 kg)of flounder Paralichthys orbignyanus under closed recirculated water systems and controlled conditions are presented. 22.5 percent of fish reached 1 kg alter 2.1 months of starting the on-growing trial. Sex ratio was 20.6 percent females and 79.4 percent males. Average length for females and males was 38.53 ± 4.58 cm TL and 32.52 ± 5.25 cm TL, respectively. Average body weight for females and males was 710.58 ± 262.95 g and 427.59 ± 203.01 g, respectively. Statistically significant differences were found for average length for sex (p0.01)and for average body weight for sex (0.01 0.05). Flesh yield was 43.1percent fillets without skin and 57percent fillets with skin. Flesh of cultivated flounder had a...

Ksouri, J.; Challougui, I.; Mensi, F..

Tizol-C., Rafael.
Laboratory experimente were carried out to determine the possibility of using the microalgae Nannochloropsis oculata as a food source for brine shirmp. Among the range concentrations studied (3 x 105 to 14 x 105 cells/ml), 12 x 105 cells/ml offered the best resulte of survival and growth rate and it is recommended as the most effective. From correlation matrix, high valúes (r > 0.90; a = 0.05) were obtained for the relation of microalgae concentration and survival, growth rate and the variation of average lenght. The mínimum cellular concentration of microalgae which is necessary for brine shrimp culture ¡s 5.6 x 105 cells/ml

IBSS Repository
