The main objective of the present study was to upgrade a clinical gamma camera to obtain high resolution tomographic images of small animal organs. The system is based on a clinical gamma camera to which we have adapted a special-purpose pinhole collimator and a device for positioning and rotating the target based on a computer-controlled step motor. We developed a software tool to reconstruct the target’s three-dimensional distribution of emission from a set of planar projections, based on the maximum likelihood algorithm. Análise do tamanho e distância entre fragmentos florestais na bacia hidrográfica do Rio Una Ciências Agrárias

This article characterized the forest fragments of Una River hydrographic basin, affluent of the Paraíba do Sul River. Results showed that the average mean size of all fragments is 9.06 ha and that the correlation to the circular shape is 0.68 and the mean nucleus area of fragments considering a border effect of 60m is 5.86 ha. The mean distance among them is 245m. These parameters indicate that this basin has elongated fragments, with high border effect and may be in risk of biodiversity erosion. O objetivo deste trabalho é identificar as correlações existentes entre variáveis obtidas a partir das imagens do sensor AVHRR/NOAA, como o NDVI, e variáveis agrometeorológicas. O trabalho apresenta a aplicação de um método baseado na teoria dos fractais para detecção de variáveis correlacionadas e identificação do conjunto de variáveis mais representativas para caracterizar o conjunto de dados. Uma série temporal de imagens AVHRR/NOAA foi fonte de dados para a avaliação do método de correlação fractal para a cultura de cana-de-açúcar nas principais áreas produtoras do estado de São Paulo, como será descrito na próxima seção.

Application of x-ray computed tomography in the evaluation of soil porosity in soil management systems REA

The study aimed to evaluate a methodology to quantify the porosity of the soil using computed tomography in areas under no-tillage, conventional tillage and native forest. Three soil management systems were selected for the study: forest, conventional tillage and no-tillage. In each soil management system, undisturbed soil samples were collected in the surface layer (0.0 to 0.10 m). The tomographic images were obtained using a X-ray microtomography. After obtaining the images, they were processed, and a methodology was evaluated for image conversion into numerical values. Automating the characterisation of beach microplastics through the application of image analyses ArchiMer

Four sandy beaches on the island of Malta in the Central Mediterranean were regularly sampled for Large MicroPlastic (LMP) particles having a diameter between 1 mm and 5 mm, at stations located at the waterline and 10 m inshore. The 10975 extracted LMP particles were characterised (dimensions, surface roughness, colour) through unaided visual observation, microscopic analyses, and an algorithm developed within the current study. Abstract The Paraná-Etendeka Magmatic Province is associated with the distensive tectonics that caused the rupture of the Gondwana continent during the Lower Cretaceous and generated an intense volcanism that covers South America and the NW portion of Namibia in Africa. O aumento da produção da cana-de-açúcar tem impulsionado o setor sucroalcooleiro na região Centro-Sul do Brasil, em especial nos estados do Mato Grosso do Sul e Mato Grosso. Porém, a expansão do cultivo na extensa Bacia do Alto Paraguai (BAP) que engloba o Pantanal, pode trazer graves ameaças ao bioma. Geographical information systems are becoming a common information management and analysis tool used in a wide and growing range of application fields. The popularization of GIS techniques request the easy-to-use softwares. From among 12 freeware softwares evaluated, Hypercube (a freeware program produced by the US Army Corps of Engineers Topographic Engineering Center) was considered the most efficient to perform functions related to filter, warp, mosaic, reformat, calibrate, and combine multi and hyper-spectral imagery. FGIS, according with the same criteria, was considered the most efficient to perform shapefile editing programs, digitizer and GIS data query tool.

The purpose of this study was to develop a three-dimensional digital model of a human hand and forearm to apply Computational Fluid Dynamics to propulsion analysis in swimming. Computer tomography scans of the hand and forearm of an Olympic swimmer were applied. The data were converted, using image processing techniques, into relevant coordinate input, which could be used in Computational Fluid Dynamics software. From that analysis, it was possible to verify an almost perfect agreement between the true human segment and the digital model. For this experiment, 2440 images were recorded by a top-view camera from 30 birds.
