Analysis of Water in the Chicken Eggshell Using the 1H Magic Angle Spinning Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Avic.

ABSTRACT The water content of the chicken eggshell has a major influence on gas (CO2 and O2) permeability. Inappropriate water loss during the incubation period increases embryo mortality and decreases chick quality. So far only the procedures that enable to determine the total water content in the eggshell have been described and developed. Our analysis of the 1H MAS NMR spectra of the chicken eggshell samples revealed three signals, differing significantly in the chemical shift and relaxation times (T1) parameters. In this work we have assigned those signals and described the changes in their intensities that occur during the incubation period. ABSTRACT: The microbial biomass, respiration and their derivative indexes are proposed as indicators of the state and changes of the soil organic matter. This document presents basic information about these indicators and the two methodologies most used for C-microbial biomass determinations, the fumigation-incubation and the fumigation-extraction methods. The basic principles behind these methods, advantages, disadvantages and limitations are discussed. As then main objective of this review, recent results from research in this field developed at the Embrapa Cerrados are presented.

Taxus globosa Schtdlt. es una especie de importancia no solo por encontrarse en la NOM-059-ECOL-2010, sino, también por que produce un metabolito llamado taxol que es utilizado comercialmente para contrarrestar el cáncer. Actualmente, su obtención de esta especie es complicada, pues por encontrarse dentro de la norma, está prohibida su extracción; además su distribución en México es discontinua y su semilla presenta latencia, condición que dificulta mucho la propagación por medio de semilla; la germinación es escalonada y baja (2 al 14%). The beach of the meteorological station of Europa Island (Indian Ocean S.W.) is a major nesting site for the green turtle. Altimetric distribution of nests on the beach is such than 95 % of nests are laid in the band located between 1.25 and 3 m above the mean level of upper tides. Nest density is a function of adult females number and varies from 0.175 to 0.043 nest/m2 for the two analyzed nesting seasons. Ground temperatures at 60 cm and 100 cm depth range from 22 (winter) to, 30°C (summer). Interannual variability of ground temperature at same depth (incubation depth) is 1.5° C from extreme hot to cold years. Comparison of methods to quantify soil microbial biomass carbon Agronomy

 Soil microorganism biomass is an important soil quality indicator. The microbial biomass of soil was determined by killing and lysing the soil microbes by fumigation with chloroform, irradiation with gamma rays, or irradiation with microwaves. Four soils with increasing carbon concentrations (5, 10, 15, and 30 g kg-1) were analyzed using four methods: the direct application of chloroform, chloroform fumigation, microwave irradiation, and gamma ray irradiation with radiation doses of 15, 25, 35, 45, and 60 KGy. The fungi and bacteria in the soil were quantified by plate counting. Procurando avaliar a qualidade da lama de cal, rejeito de fabrica de celulose, como corretivo de acidez do solo, foram conduzidos dois ensaios de incubacao com solo, nos laboratorios da Embrapa Florestas, Colombo-PR. No primeiro ensaio foram testadas doses crescentes do produto, comparadas com serie identica de carbono de calcio p.a., em 7 tratamentos (0; 4; 8; 12; 16; 20 e 24 t/ha) e 3 repeticoes, durante 60 dias. Two experiments were carried out to study the effect of breeder age on incubation parameters (hatchability, eggshell thickness, egg surface temperature and chick weight). In Exp. 1, fertile eggs (30- and 60-wk-old breeders) were incubated at three different temperatures (36.8, 37.8 and 38.8 ºC). Eggshell surface temperature was measured by attaching a thermocouple to the shell and data were collected in a datalogger every ten minutes. Effect of incubation time and concentration of animals in grazing experiments using a narrow size range of particles OMA

Three concentrations of <i>A. tonsa</i> adults were allowed to feed on a narrow size range suspension of particles. Sampling was done at 4-hour intervals during 24 hours. It is shown that both animal concentration and incubation time considerably influence the obtained ingestion rates and filtering-spectra. These results are discussed in relation to different calculation methods and models.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of incubation temperature (34.5; 35.5; 36.5; 37.5 and 38.5ºC), on incubation period, embryonic mortality, hatching rate, water loss and chick weight at hatch, using daily incubation of partridge (Rhynchotus rufescens) eggs. The highest hatching percentage was obtained between 35.5 and 36.5ºC. Incubation length and temperature were inversely proportional. Water loss was lower in eggs incubated at low temperatures as compared to high temperatures. There was no difference among incubation temperatures in absolute and relative hatchling weights. Early embryonic mortality increased at low temperatures (<35.5ºC), whereas intermediate and late embryonic mortality increased at high temperatures (>36.5ºC)....

ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of incubator carbon dioxide (CO2) and oxygen (O2) levels, and egg weight (EW) on embryo mortality (EM) and hatchability of fertile eggs (HFE). A total of 1920 hatching eggs were obtained from a middle-aged (41 weeks) ROSS 308 broiler breeder flock. The eggs were classified according to EW as heavy (69.63 ± 0.09 g), medium (65.20 ± 0.04 g) and light (61.11 ± 0.08 g) and randomly allocated to four separate identical incubators. Em Mato Grosso do Sul, existem jazidas de calcarios provenientes de rocha sedimentar, aos quais sao atribuidos empiricamente maior reatividade inicial em relacao aos calcarios de rocha metamorfica. Na Embrapa-Centro de Pesquisa Agropecuaria do Oeste (CPAO), em Dourados, MS, avaliou-se, em casa de vegetacao, a eficiencia relativa de fracoes granulometricas de calcarios, em Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro alico franco-areno-argiloso e Latossolo Roxo distrofico muito argiloso. Em cada solo, aplicou-se dose de calcario estimada para elevar o pH em CaCl2 para 6,0.
