Influenza A virus (IAV) causes economic losses to the swine industry and public health concerns. The IAV is endemic in pigs and genetically and antigenically distinct virus lineages of subtypes H1N1, H1N2 and H3N2 circulate in different geographic regions with limited cross-protection (1, 2). The co-circulation of distinct IAV lineages associated with rapid viral evolution challenges the development of effective vaccines. The aim of this study was to evaluate the immunogenicity of an adjuvanted virosome-based influenza vaccine containing the hemagglutinin (HA) of H1N1pdm, H1N2 and H3N2. |

OBJECTIVE: To describe the clinical aspects of H1N1 among HIV coinfected patients seen at a reference center for AIDS treatment in São Paulo, Brazil. Design: Observational and prospective cohort study. METHODS: Descriptive study of clinical and laboratory investigation of HIV-infected patients with confirmed diagnosis of influenza A (H1N1) in 2009. We analyzed patients monitored in CRT/DST/AIDS, a specialized service for people living with HIV, located in São Paulo, Brazil. RESULTS: 108 individuals presented with symptoms of H1N1 infection at the CRT DST/AIDS in 2009. Eighteen patients (16.7%) had confirmation of the diagnosis of influenza A. Among the confirmed cases, ten (55.6%) were hospitalized and eight (44.4%) were outpatients. Dyspnea was present in... |

OBJECTIVE: The pandemic of new influenza A (H1N1) has spread rapidly throughout the world, characterized by high transmissibility, but low pathogenicity and virulence. The aim of this study was to understand the pandemic event and available technologies for disease surveillance, prevention, control and management. METHODS: In this retrospective study, we used data from patients in the State of Paraná who had been diagnosed with the disease during the 2009 pandemic. Data were collected from the disease notification form and the study only included patients with confirmed laboratory diagnosis by RT-PCR. RESULTS: We present the epidemiological profile of 4,740 patients that met the inclusion criteria. The variables age, level of schooling and gestational age... |
