| This working paper summarizes the results of a structured collective exercise where participants first presented their country reports and experience. A cross-country comparison was then conducted, item by item in order to identify common and specific problems. A brainstorming approach enabled to discuss possible solutions and strategies to be further tailored for each country. Finally, in a follow up step these strategies were synthesized into a more comprehensive framework intended to provide basic guidelines for other Asian and Pacific countries in the field of ICT to support decision-making for poverty alleviation in rural areas where poor populations rely on the CGPRT sector. |

| Development of an African repository for electronic publications in marine science and oceanography Realisations in 2004 – Planning of 2005 The goal of OdinPubAfrica is to develop an electronic platform to collect scientific documents (articles, conference papers, working papers …) produced by members of African research institutes in the field of oceanography and marine science. A two year project was accepted by the government of Flanders in the FUST–program to realize the goal. The University Library of LUC (Belgium) is coordinating the project, which started officially on August 1, 2005. |

| Abstract Brazil is a country of continental dimensions and most genetic services are concentrated in the Southeast and South, including the Medical Genetics Service of the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (MGS/HCPA). As many areas on the country do not have adequate medical genetics support, networks were designed to extend the service of the MGS/HCPA reference center. | The Sixteenth Session of the IOC Committee on IODE was attended by nearly 100 participants from 37 countries and a number of partner organizations. The Committee recommended specific support to the IODE Regional Coordinators. In view of the success of the “Pilot Project on the Revision of MEDI” the Committee recommended to (i) make the MEDI a permanent IODE programme; (ii) establish a Steering Group for MEDI; and (iii) include the MEDI software tool in IODE training activities and capacity building products/projects. | The OceanDocs Network has been created to provide a multi institutional distributed network of OceanDocs Central and institutional, regional and national repositories to provide a unique access point to marine science publications and research. Until 2011, its’ development had been loosely guided by cooperation between IODE, University of Hasselt, Belgium, and regional Oceanographic Data and Information Networks (ODIN). This first session of the OceanDocs Steering Group builds on the earlier work and takes the OceanDocs Network into the future with a formalized structure and agreed policies. |
