Carcass physical composition and meat quality of Charolais cattle of different categories R. Bras. Zootec.

The objective of the experiment was to study the carcass physical composition and meat qualitative characteristics of different categories of Charolais cattle, feedlot finished. Nine steers (ST), ten heifers (HE), with average age of 20 months, and ten cull cows (CO) with average age of 87 months, taken from the same herd, were used. Diet contained 13% of crude protein for ST and HE and 10% for CO, with roughage:concentrate relation of 50:50, on a dry matter basis. The animals of the three categories were slaughtered with similar degree of finishing, with average subcutaneous fat thickness of 3.8 mm. The aim of this study was to evaluate carcass traits of crossbred steers surgically castrated or immunocastrated. Steers produced along two years from mating Nellore, 1/2 Nellore x 1/2 Angus and 1/2 Nellore x 1/2 Caracu dams with Braford, Charbray and Caracu sires were raised grazing tropical grasses until 20 months of age (n = 80; 40 per treatment; five of each genetic group per treatment), finished feedlot for 4 months (n = 64; 32 per treatment; four of each genetic group per treatment), and harvested at 570 ? 63 kg of body weight. ABSTRACT Twenty-four Iberian castrated male pigs were used to characterize and evaluate the effect of the duration of “Montanera” in the adipocytes size and its relation with the backfat thickness and intramuscular fat. The animals were fed under extensive conditions during 30, 60 and 90 days in the “Dehesa” before slaughtered. Carcass weight, percentage of intramuscular fat, thickness of backfat and its three layers and adipocytes size of the intramuscular fat were obtained. The group which expended 90 days on fattening obtained the highest adipocytes, with an area higher by a 50% than those that only expended 30 days. Meat quality is a complex trait that is influenced by genetic and environmental factors, which includes mineral concentration. However, the association between mineral concentration and meat quality, and the specific molecular pathways underlying this association, are not well explored. We therefore analyzed gene expression as measured with RNA-seq in Longissimus thoracis muscle of 194 Nelore steers for association with three meat quality traits (intramuscular fat, meat pH, and tenderness) and the concentration of 13 minerals (Ca, Cr, Co, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, P, S, Se, and Zn). ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to investigate the effect of feeding conditions on methylation status of FATP1 gene, which is an important candidate gene of Intramuscular fat and important indicator of chicken meat quality. We selected Daninghe (DNH) and Qingjiaoma (QJM) chickens under scatter-feeding and captivity-feeding conditions as experimental animals, and detected the methylation status of FATP1 genes in chicken breast muscle using Bisulfite Sequencing PCR method. The results showed that the methylation level of FATP1 in scatter-fed chicken was lower than in captivity-fed conditions in DNH and QIM chicken breast tissues; DNA methylation in the promoter and exon1 region was demonstrated to negatively regulate the expression of the FATP1 gene....

We investigated the effects of crossbreeding on slaughter traits and the chemical composition of chicken breast muscle. Trials were conducted using 120 broilers from four lines: Xiao-Shan chicken (XS), Xian-Ju chicken (XJ), Xiao-Shan chicken♂♂ × Xian-Ju chicken♀♀ (Zhenan 1, ZNY1) and Xiao-Shan chicken♂♂ × (Guang-Xi Yellow chicken♂♂×Xian-Ju chicken♀♀) ♀♀ (Zhenan 2, ZNY2). ABSTRACT. Genetic variations in genes involved in lipid storage, which also may interfere with important phenotypic traits such as intramuscular fat deposition in cattle, can represent useful markers in marker assisted selection programs. An important candidate gene is perilipin 2 (PLIN2) that plays a role in the capture of long chain fatty acids and in the formation and stabilization of lipid droplets in different tissues including muscle. As reported by our group, PLIN2 expression level was associated with trans-eQTL (expression quantitative loci distant of gene associated) at chr3: 87, 253, 086 in Nellore cattle, where animals with different genotypes showed different expression level of PLIN2 among the 193 animals and the co-expression analysis...
