Telahigue, K.; Rabeh, I.; Chetoui, I.; Romdhane, M.S..

Labrosse, Pierre; Letourneur, Y; Kulbicki, M; Paddon, Jr.
The potential yields of demersal reefal and lagoonal finfish, which are valuable for trade or consumption in the Northern Province of New Caledonia, are unknown. Fishing pressure was estimated from tally-sheets of professional fishermen to assess trade fishing and a household consumption survey to assess subsistence fishing. Total yield was estimated to be 1 326 tonnes in 1995, 94 % of which correspond to subsistence fishing. Most of the catches were taken from the east and west coasts; in the north zone (Belep Archipelago) catches were very low. From this fishing pressure and the total stock values, the maximum sustainable yield (MSY) was estimated to be 12 600 t, which was about 10 % of the total stocks assessed in the Northern Province (138 300 t). This...

Genetic Differentiation in West African Lagoon Fishes OceanDocs
Agnese, J.F..
Most of the fishes living in the lagoons do not spend all their time in these brackishwaters. Sometimes, they go back to the river to spawn as in the case of freshwater fishes like Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus. Others like marine fishes (e.g., Ethmalosa jimbriata) feed or reproduce in lagoons for a time. Even true lagoon fishes are generally able to live in freshwater and/or in marine water. This is the case for two brackishwater tilapias, Sarotherodon melanotheron and Tilapia guineensis. Both are present in lagoons from Senegal to Congo (formerly Zaire). S. melanotheron is present in marine water near Dakar, Senegal, and in some freshwater lakes in Cote d'Ivoire. 1: guineensis is also present in freshwater in Cote d'Ivoire.

Investigation on possible chemical pollution of the BouGhraa lagoon south of Tunisia by chemical wastes OceanDocs
Farhat, F.; Ben Aoun, Z.; Chouba, L.; Hadj Ali, M. S..

lagoonal sand smelts ( <Atherina lagunaea>, teleostei, atherinidae) inhabit marine shallow waters of the coasts of djerba island (Tunisia) OceanDocs
Bouriga, N.; Selmi, S.; Aurelle, D.; Barthelemy, R.; Quignard, J-P.; Trabelsi, M..

Management Issues for the Sustainable Use of Lagoon Fish Resources OceanDocs
Entsua-Mensah, M.; Ofori-Danson, P.K.; Koranteng, K.A..
Coastal lagoons form an integral part of marine fisheries and provide important spawning and nursery grounds for many fish species. The economic contributions of lagoon fisheries have not been given adequate consideration by fisheries authorities. Ghana's 550-km coastline includes over 90lagoons. These lagoons and their wetlands provide valuable products and services, which include supporting the fisheries, absorbing floodwaters and protecting biodiversity. They also serve as roosting, nesting and feeding sites for many species of birds. Through the support of the World Bank and the Global Environmental Facility, Ghana has designated five coastal wetland areas as Ramsar sites due to their importance as fishing areas and as roosting, nesting and feeding...
