| ABSTRACT: Searching for alternatives to deal with weeds without the exclusive use of herbicides can increase the sustainability of agricultural production in the Amazon region. This study aimed to evaluate the allelopathic potential of cover crops on the weed shrubby false buttonweed (Spermacoce verticillata L.). Three straw levels (1; 2.5 and 5 mg cm-2) of thirteen cover crops (Cajanus cajan, Canavalia ensiformis, Crotalaria juncea, C. ochroleuca, C. spectabilis, Mucuna aterrima, M. cinereum, Pennisetum glaucum, Sorghum bicolor, S. sudanense, Urochloa brizanha cv. | Selecao de leguminosas arboreas e arbustivas de multiplos propositos (Acacia angustissima, Albizia saman, A. lebbek, Desmodium gynoides, Sesbania sesban, Calliandra calothyrsus, Leucaena leucocephala, L. hybrid x1, L. hybrid x2, L. hybrid x3, Inga edulis, Clitoria racemosa, anandenanthera pavonina, Caesalpina peltephoroides), em parcelas experimentais com 16 plantas sem repeticoes. Foi avaliada taxa de sobrevivencia, diametro e altura aos 6, 12, 18 e 24 meses. A taxa de sobrevivencia foi de 100% aos seis meses de idade. Os maiores DAPs aos seis e doze meses foram para A. angustissima, I. edulis, a. pavonina. | Os padrões fenológicos da vegetação arbórea do cerrado, savanas e demais formações florestais periodicamente secas ainda são pouco conhecidos, assim como são ainda obscuras as causas da periodicidade observada, ora atribuída a fatores abióticos, ora a fatores bióticos, ou a ambos, ou ainda determinada por restrição filogenética. Em uma área de cerrado marginal no extremo nordeste do Maranhão foram estudadas, durante vinte e dois meses, as dez espécies de leguminosas arbóreas mais freqüentes. | ABSTRACT Cowpea beans are of great socioeconomic expression for the rural population in North and Northeastern Brazil. This legume is rich in essential nutrients and exhibits great resistance to water stress. However, for grain processing, it is fundamental to study legume behavior during the hydration process. This study aims to evaluate the mass transfer of different cowpea beans via mathematical modeling to determine the viability of hydration for commercialization as a canned product. | In a greenhouse experiment, morpho-anatomical and micromorphometrical analyses of two soybean cultivars, MG/BR46 (Conquista) and BR16-tolerant and sensitive to drought, respectively-were used to study their water-deficit-tolerance strategies. Drought treatments were applied at reproductive stages from R2 to R7, where evaluations were conducted at 30 days and 45 days after stress started, respectively. The total length of Conquista plants (shoot + root) was greater than of BR16 plants. Pod dry weight was adversely affected due to the lack of moisture, decreasing productivity even of Conquista plants.
