Growth, carcass characteristics, chemical composition and fatty acid profile of the longissimus dorsi muscle in goat kids fed diets with castor oil R. Bras. Zootec.
Maia,Michelle de Oliveira; Susin,Ivanete; Pires,Alexandre Vaz; Gentil,Renato Shinkai; Ferreira,Evandro Maia; Mendes,Clayton Quirino; Alencar,Severino Matias de.
The objective in this study was to determine growth, carcass characteristics, chemical composition and fatty acid profile of the longissimus dorsi of crossbred Boer × Saanen kids fed castor oil. Twenty-four kids (12 males and 12 females) were assigned in a randomized complete block design with two treatments and twelve replications. Blocks were defined according to weight, gender and initial age of animals for the evaluation of performance. The experimental treatments consisted of two diets containing 900 g concentrate/kg: a control diet (without addition of oil) and another containing castor oil at 30 g/kg (on a dry matter basis). After they reached an average body weight of 25 kg, males were slaughtered for the evaluation of carcass characteristics,...

Nutrient intake and digestibility of the lipid residue of biodiesel from palm oil in sheep R. Bras. Zootec.
Raiol,Laura Cristina Barra; Kuss,Fernando; Silva,André Guimarães Maciel e; Soares,Bruno Cabral; Souza,Karla Débora Santana de; Colodo,Juliana Cristina Nogueira; Lourenço Júnior,José de Brito; Ávila,Sandra Cristina de.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of inclusion of lipid residue of biodiesel originated in the processing of palm oil (Elaeis guineensis) in the diet on the digestibility of feedlot lambs. Twenty-five crossbred male castrated lambs, weighing 20±1.61 kg, were distributed in randomized blocks with five treatments and five replications. The experimental period lasted 22 days; 15 for diet adaptation, 2 for the adaptation to the indicator LIPE (lignin from Eucalyptus grandis isolated, purified and enriched, UFMG, Minas Gerais) and 5 for fecal sampling. Diets were formulated with 64% concentrate based on corn and soybean meal, 31% Massai grass (Panicum maximum cv. Massai) hay and 5% lipid supplementation from increasing levels of...

Performance of crossbred cows under grazing supplemented with soybean oil. Repositório Alice
SILVA, F. R. F. da; SANTIAGO, E.; CARVALHO, G. A. de; HALFEN, J.; SALMAN, A. K.; CIPRIANI, H. N.; SCHIMITT, E..
This work aimed to evaluate effect of soybean oil supplementation on dairy production of crossbred dairy cows under grazing. Twenty ½ and ¾ Holstein x Gyr cows with average of 77 days of lactation and 19.8 kg of daily milk yield were used under grazing of palisade grass (Brachiaria brizantha cv. Marandu) managed by intermittent stocking. In a 2 x 2 crossover trial, cows were homogeneously distributed between two experimental groups: 1) Control (C) ? supplementation with concentrate ration without soybean oil; and 2) Soybean oil (SO) ? addition 3% of soybean oil in concentrate ration (dry matter basis). Inclusion of soybean oil did not affect daily milk yield (P>0.05) in relation to control group. However, considering cost of oil inclusion and only the...

Protected fat and variable level of protein in diets of crossbreed cows in early lactation Animal Sciences
Souza Júnior, Alcy Heleno de; Lana, Rogério de Paula; Teixeira, César Roberto Viana; Gionbelli, Mateus Pies; Veloso, Cristina Mattos; Rennó, Luciana Navajas.
Current study evaluated the inclusion of protected fat and different levels of crude protein (CP) in the diet of crossbreed cows in early lactation. Twelve cows were distributed in a 4 x 4 factorial design, with four treatments (12 or 16% CP, with or without MEGALAC-E®). Statistical analyzes with ANOVA and Pearson’s linear correlation procedures were performed. Protected fat did not affect intake of dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) (p > 0.05). Increased CP raised consumption of CP and EE and decreased the non-fiber carbohydrates (NFC; p <0.05). Protected fat increased (p <0.05) the digestibility of DM, OM, CP and ashes in the lower protein content. CP increase raised the level of blood and urinary urea (p < 0.05). There was no difference...
