| Atmospheric deposition is an important component of the nutrient cycles of terrestrial ecosystems, but field measurements are especially scarce in tropical regions. In this study we analysed 15 months of precipitation chemistry collected in an old growth tropical forest located in French Guiana. We measured nutrient inputs via bulk precipitation and throughfall and used the canopy budget model to estimate nutrient fluxes via canopy exchange and dry deposition. Based on this method we quantified net fluxes of macronutrients and compared their contribution to internal cycling rates via litterfall. | A análise da dinâmica do dossel tem grande importância para se avaliar o efeito da urbanização nos fragmentos florestais, uma vez que alterações nas copas resultam em modificações abióticas e bióticas abaixo destas. Para a analise da dinâmica do dossel, avaliou-se a produção de serapilheira e o índice de área foliar (IAF), obtido por três diferentes metodologias, durante dois anos, em um fragmento de mata semidecídua, do perímetro urbano de Belo Horizonte, MG. | This study aimed to evaluate the total and seasonal deposition of biomass, concentration and total amount of nutrient in litter of a taxi-branco stand and of a secondary forest, both 9 years old and established in area deforested by shifting cultivation. Thirty collectors 1.5 m2 were distributed (20 at taxi-branco and ten at secondary forest). Litter was collected monthly, oven-dried and analyzed for concentrations of N, P, K, Ca and Mg. | We documented litter production and seed rain in fragments of semideciduous forest (SDF) in the western part of the state of Paraná, Brazil: a late successional fragment (LF); an early successional fragment (EF); and a reforested late successional fragment (RLF). In each fragment, we established three permanent plots with four litter traps each, corresponding to 12 litter traps per fragment. Botanical material was collected monthly between June 2011 and May 2012. We sorted the material by category: leaves; branches; reproductive structures; and miscellaneous. | Litterfall and transfer of nutrients was estimated in two tropical coastal forests of Brazil - the Atlantic and the Restinga Forests at Cardoso Island, São Paulo. Samples were collected monthly, from June 1990 to May 1991, using thirty 0.25 m2 traps. There were significant differences in litter production between the Atlantic Forest (6.3 t.ha-1.year-1) and the Restinga Forest (3.9 t.ha-1.year-1). Litterfall was continuous throughout the year with maximum in the beginning of the rainy season in both sites. | Few reports have been presented on nutrient cycling in rubber tree plantations (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.). This experiment was carried out to evaluate: the effect of K rates on the amount of nutrients transfered to the soil in a 13-year old Hevea brasilensis RRIM 600 clone plantation, nutrient retranslocation from the leaves before falling to the soil, and nutrient loss by dry rubber export. | Estudou-se a produção de serapilheira em 10 clareiras naturais da Reserva Municipal de Santa Genebra (22°49'45"S e 47°06'33"W) em Campinas, SP. Foram utilizados 30 coletores de madeira de 0,5 x 0,5 m com fundo em tela de náilon com 1,0 mm² de malha, colocados a 10 cm acima da superfície do solo. As coletas foram realizadas mensalmente de janeiro a dezembro de 1997. Em laboratório, o material depositado nos coletores foi triado nas frações folhas, ramos (até 2,0 cm de diâmetro), flores e frutos, seco em estufa a 70°C e pesado em balança analítica. | Foram estudados três trechos de uma floresta semidecídua na Estação Ecológica do Tripuí com o objetivo de verificar a ocorrência de diferenças na produção de serapilheira de acordo com o grau de perturbação. A serapilheira foi coletada entre julho de 1997 e agosto de 1998, usando-se dez coletores de 0,36 m², em cada trecho. A produção anual nos trechos A1 (6,78 ± 0,65 t.ha-1) e A2 (6,58 ± 0,49 t.ha-1) foi significativamente superior à estimada no trecho A3 (5,09 ± 0,58 t.ha-1) (ANOVA, p < 0,01). | A produção de folhedo e a taxa de decomposição de folhedo (k) foram estimadas, no período de 2.8.85 a 10.8.86, numa área de 1 ha de mata atlântica de encosta (60º de inclinação e altitude de 140m), no município do Guarujá (Lat. S 24º16'; Long. W 46º19'), Estado de São Paulo. A queda pluviométrica anual média é de 2050 mm e não há estação seca definida. O solo é argilo-arenoso e ácido, com pH variando entre 3 e 4. A produção anual de folhedo foi de 7925 kg/ha.
