Benign inclusions are foci of non-neoplastic ectopic tissue in lymph nodes. They are classified into three types: epithelial, nevomelanocytic and decidual. It is important to identify them for the differential diagnosis with lymph node metastases, particularly among patients who present proliferative benign lesions. In general, epithelial inclusions are presented inside lymph nodes as epithelial cysts or as numerous structures resembling ducts. The cells of these structures may originate from the cells of paramesonephricus ducts, salivary glands, breast tissue, thyroid follicles, squamous epithelium or mesothelium. Paramesonephricus -type inclusions are almost exclusively found in pelvic lymph nodes and, in appearance, they resemble the epithelium of the... |

Staphylococcus aureus infection may lead to the development of soft tissue damage. It has been evaluated in other researches using different animal models. In addition, the inflammatory response developed by the host organism facing an infection by this pathogen has been analyzed and neutrophils have been linked to the immune response developed. In this study, we aimed to compare the inflammatory response developed by the host induced by an intradermal infection with a methicillin-resistant strain of Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) or a methicillin-susceptible strain of Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). Mice euthanasia occurred in the following times: 6, 24, 48 and 96 hours of infection; the cell number and the cytokine release were evaluated. Our results showed... |

Cadmium, hazardous heavy metal, is recognized to produce severe toxic effects in humans. In this study, intestinal wall surrounding the mesenteric lymph nodes, based on the cadmium to be mainly lymphocytes and plasma cells, granulocytes eozinofil examined effects on the immune system were investigated by histochemical and electron microscope. Electron microscope examination of the cross section of cadmium, mitochondria cristae in the cytoplasm of lymphocytes was observed deterioration in the structure and degenerative changes in dilated endoplasmic reticulum, were seen together with elongation, that a small number of multi-focal granular lymphocytes, but plasma cells and eosinophilic granulocytes of the structures of multi-focal granular structures of... |

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) influence tumor development at primary as well as in metastatic sites, but there have been no direct comparisons of the transcriptional profiles of stromal cells from different tumor sites. In this study, we used customized cDNA microarrays to compare the gene expression profile of stromal cells from primary tumor (CAF, n = 4), lymph node metastasis (N+, n = 3) and bone marrow (BM, n = 4) obtained from breast cancer patients. Biological validation was done in another 16 samples by RT-qPCR. Differences between CAF vs N+, CAF vs BM and N+ vs BM were represented by 20, 235 and 245 genes, respectively (SAM test, FDR < 0.01). Functional analysis revealed that genes related to development and morphogenesis were... |

Tuberculosis of the cystic duct lymph node associated with cholelithiasis is rare. We report a case of a 40 year-old woman with this pathology. She presented with anorexia, biliary colic, postprandial fullness and fever. Imaging studies revealed cholelithiasis and several visible portal lymph nodes. Cholecystectomy was performed and histopathological examination showed tuberculosis of the cystic duct lymph node without affecting the gallbladder. The presence of gallstones and lymphadenopathy in computed tomography, associated with persistent fever and symptoms that resemble cholecystitis, should cause suspicion of tuberculosis. However, diagnosis is usually achieved by microscopic appearance of caseating granulomas and isolation of Mycobacterium... |
