Asian soybean rust in Brazil: past, present, and future 86
Godoy,Cláudia Vieira; Seixas,Claudine Dinali Santos; Soares,Rafael Moreira; Marcelino-Guimarães,Franscismar Correa; Meyer,Maurício Conrado; Costamilan,Leila Maria.
Abstract: Asian soybean rust, caused by the fungus Phakopsora pachyrhizi, is the most severe disease of the crop and can cause yield losses of up to 90%. The disease was first reported in Brazil in 2001. Epidemics of the disease are common in the country, where the fungus can survive year-round. Regulatory measures to reduce the inoculum between seasons and avoid late-season soybean have been adopted to manage the disease. Disease control has relied mainly on chemical control, but a lower sensibility of the fungus to fungicides has been reported in Brazil. Major-resistance genes have been mapped and incorporated into the cultivars. With the reduced efficacy of the fungicides, the adoption of integrated measures to control the disease will be important for...

Dosages of bokashi in the control of Meloidogyne javanica in lettuce, in greenhouse 75
Ferreira,Júlio CA; Hernandes,Isabela; Brito,Olívia DC; Cardoso,Michelly R; Dias-Arieira,Claudia R.
ABSTRACT Root-knot nematodes are among the major phytosanitary problems on vegetables, and the use of organic matter can be a viable method to control this parasite. Thus, in the present study we aimed to investigate in a greenhouse the use of bokashi doses (organic compound produced by fermentation of grain mixtures) in the control of Meloidogyne javanica in lettuce. Substrate infestation was carried out using tomato seedlings transplanted into pots containing 2 kg of autoclaved soil and inoculated with 2000 eggs and eventual second stage juveniles. After 60 days, the aerial part of the tomato plant was discarded and lettuce seedlings of cv. Vera were transplanted, adding bokashi at doses of 0, 5, 10 and 20 g/pot. One second treatment consisted in the...

MODELING HETEROGENEITY IN PRODUCTION MODELS: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM INDIVIDUAL FARMING IN POLAND 31
Hockmann, Heinrich; Pieniadz, Agata; Goraj, Lech.
This discussion paper deals with the estimation of a random coefficient model. The virtue of this approach is that it considers firm heterogeneity, which conventional SFA models do not. Applying the model to Polish farms, the results indicate that the conventional random and fixed effect models overestimate the inefficiency score. In addition, the reasons for inefficiency are analyzed. It is shown that despite the fragmentation of Polish agriculture, there is no evidence for scale inefficiency. Moreover, inefficiency could partly be attributed to factors, which affect the management input and requirements on farms.

Revealing an Equitable Income Allocation among Dairy Farm Partnerships 31
Dressler, Jonathan B.; Tauer, Loren W..
We formulate a method to determine an equitable division of dairy farm partnership income when partners provide unequal amounts of capital, labor, and management and empirically estimate this relationship. New York dairy farm financial data are used within fixed effects and random coefficient panel regression models to reveal a systematic division of dairy farm partnership income among operators’ labor, capital, and management while controlling for heterogeneity arising from differing herd size. Results indicate that controlling for time and heterogeneity across farms due to herd size are important factors when dividing net farm income among unpaid factors of production. Empirical estimates of allocating dairy farm partnership income to equity,...

The role of intangible assets in value creation: case of Russian companies 31
Garanina, Tatiana.
The paper is devoted to the question of the role of intangible assets in value creation of companies in the economy of the XXI century. The main research objective is to define the impact of fundamental value of both tangible and intangible assets on the market value of companies. Evaluation of intangible assets is based on residual operating income (REOI) model. In the focus of the research there is a sample of Russian companies. The model was tested on the whole sample of the companies, and then separately on each of five industries: mechanical engineering, extractive industry, power engineering, communication services, and metallurgy.

Variables associated with the fluctuation of Rhynchophorus palmarum (Curculionidae) in influence area of oil palm and American oil palm in the Central Amazônia 22
Cysne, Alex Queiroz; Rios, Sara de Almeida.
Rhynchophorus palmarum (L.) is one of the main pests of economic importance in the cultivation of  American oil palms. This work aimed to evaluate the influence of the management practices and environmental variables in the population of R. palmarum in area of seed production of Elaeis spp. in the Amazonas State, Brazil. The climate data (temperature, relative humidity, and rainfall), seed production (number of harvested bunches, number of female inflorescences) and capture of insects (traps baited with pheromone of aggregation and sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum L.) were collected, and subjected to statistical analysis, multiple linear regression, and Pearson’s correlation. It was observed that rainfall, minimal relative humidity and harvest of bunches...
