Detection of Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis in a cattle/pudu interface Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Salgado,M.; Aleuy,O. A.; Sevilla,I. A.; Troncoso,E..
ABSTRACTMycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (Map) is the etiological agent of paratuberculosis. In Chile, information about Map isolation from both domestic ruminant and wildlife species has been accumulating, but it has to be extended to other species. The present study focuses specifically on one wild grazing species, the pudu (Pudu puda), one of the less known South American deer considered an endangered species that shares pastures with cattle in southern Chile, where the greatest part of the country's dairy cattle population is located. Convenient samples from 3 pudus were collected from one dairy farm where Map infection had previously been confirmed in cattle. All three pudus shed the bacterium in feces and the isolates are the same type of...

Schohn, Thomas; Pelletier, Dominique; Carpentier, Liliane.
The AMBIO project conducted a comprehensive video-based baseline assessment of coral reef fish communities and associated habitats in the New Caledonian lagoons. Observation relies on remote unbaited underwater video, using the STAVIRO rotating technique (Pelletier et al. 2012).  This survey was conducted in 2015 in Entrecasteaux Reefs, both located within the Coral Sea Natural Park, and part of World Heritage site. 109 STAVIRO were validated in 9 days, covering the reefs and geomorphological units in the area. Images were analyzed to characterize the habitat surrounding each station, and fishes based on a list of 565 species (Pelletier et al. 2016).  28 indicators were computed and represented on maps (Sextant server). Indicators were analyzed using the...

Mapping diversity indices: not a trivial issue ArchiMer
Granger, Victoria; Bez, Nicolas; Fromentin, Jean-marc; Meynard, Christine; Jadaud, Angelique; Merigot, Bastien.
Mapping diversity indices, that is estimating values in all locations of a given area from some sampled locations, is central to numerous research and applied fields in ecology. Two approaches are used to map diversity indices without including abiotic or biotic variables: (i) the indirect approach, which consists in estimating each individual species distribution over the area, then stacking the distributions of all species to estimate and map a posteriori the diversity index, (ii) the direct approach, which relies on computing a diversity index in each sampled locations and then to interpolate these values to all locations of the studied area for mapping. For both approaches, we document drawbacks from theoretical and practical viewpoints and argue...

Paratuberculosis: an update BJM
Lilenbaum,W.; Marassi,C.D.; Oelemann,W.M.R..
Paratuberculosis is a chronic enteritis that affects ruminants and is caused by Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (Map). The disease is worldwide spread and causes important economic losses. In Brazil, the bacillus was isolated in the south and northeast regions of the country and in Rio de Janeiro, but there are no enough epidemiological studies about its occurrence. Isolation of Map from tissues or fecal samples is 100% specific, but Map shows the most fastidious growth of all mycobacteria. Incubation lasts 8 -12 weeks, with a dependency on exogenous mycobactin J. Diagnostic tests based on specific DNA sequences allow fast and secure identification, and PCR has been used to confirm positive culture results and to identify Map in feces, milk and...

Rapport final du projet CHAMILA (Cartographie des habitats en milieu lagunaire méditerranéen) ArchiMer
Menu, Marion; Vaz, Sandrine; Bajjouk, Touria; Derolez, Valerie; Fiandrino, Annie; Giraud, Anais; Grillas, Patrick; Ouisse, Vincent.
Coastal Mediterranean lagoons are often defined as homogeneous ecosystems that home many migratory and sedentary species. They also host strong salinity gradients, depth variation and very diverse plant communities, which create small-scale heterogeneity within lagoons. This is why each lagoon must be described as an entity by itself made up of a multitude of homogeneous features, called habitats, which support specific ecological functions for organisms (nursery, feeding, protection against predators...). Although many studies have resulted in collecting high numbers of physical, chemical and biological data in coastal Mediterranean lagoons, there is currently a lack of knowledge of the spatial distribution of these habitats. In our project, we (1)...

Topography and axon arbor architecture in the visual callosal pathway: effects of deafferentation and blockade of TV-methyl-D-aspartate receptors Biol. Res.
OLAVARRÍA,JAIME F; LAING,ROBYN; HIROI,RYOKO; LASIENE,JÚRATE.
Visual callosal fibers link cortical loci in opposite hemispheres that represent the same visual field but whose locations are not mirror-symmetric with respect to the brain midline. Presence of the eyes from postnatal day 4 (P4) to P6 is required for this map to be specified. We tested the hypothesis that specification of the callosal map requires the activation of A'-methyl-D-aspartate receptors (NMDARs). Our results show that blockade of NMDARs with MK-801 during this critical period did not induce obvious abnormalities in callosal connectivity patterns, suggesting that retinal influences do not opérate through NMDAR-mediated processes to specify normal callosal topography. In contrast, we found that interfering with NMDAR function either through...

Un modèle général de d'évolution de l'océan indien ArchiMer
Sahabi, Mohamed.
The last global synthesis of the evolution of the Indian ocean which satisfactorily describes the kinematics of the five major plates, up to the initial stages, dates back to Norton and Sclater [1979]. Although the most recent phases of evolution have been largely detailed, in particular in the proximity of the triple junction, the initial stages of evolution have been generally described by models quite speculative and generally only constrained by pairs of plates. The recentmost gravity data based on the altimetric satellites SEASAT, GEOSAT and ERS1 [Sandwell and Smith, 1992] give an homogenoeus image of sea-floor topography. These data, declassified to the south of 30°S, reveal previously unknowkn features of the sea-floor fabric and allow to further...
