Citral as food additive for common snook - zootechnical parameters and digestive enzymes Ciência Rural
Michelotti,Bruna Tomazetti; Mori,Natacha Cossettin; Magnotti,Caio Cesar Franca; Heinzmann,Berta Maria; Almeida,Ana Paula Gottlieb; Cerqueira,Vinicius Ronzani; Baldisserotto,Bernardo.
ABSTRACT: Essential oils of plants whose main compound is citral showed beneficial effects when added to fish feed. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the dietary effect of the addition of citral on zootechnical parameters and digestive enzyme activities of Centropomus undecimalis. Juveniles were fed for 45 days with diets containing different amounts of citral (0.0 - control, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 mL per kg of diet). The water quality parameters were kept stable during the experiment and no mortality was observed. At the end of the experimental period, the treatment 0.5 mL citral per kg of diet had the lowest weight gain and specific growth rate, and the highest feed conversion, while the same parameters did not differ between the other...

Common moist diet replacement to promote sustainable Cobia Rachycentron canadum (Linnaeus) near- shore farming in Brazil Scientia Agricola
Landuci,Felipe Schwahofer; Rombenso,Artur Nishioka; Pontes,Marcelo Duarte; Maia,Marcelo Pereira; Eler,Giselle; Araujo,Bruno Cavalheiro; Poersch,Luis Henrique da Silva.
ABSTRACT: Cobia is one of the most promising warm water aquaculture species. In Brazil, cobia farming began in 2008 in the state of Rio de Janeiro from experimental scale facilities to regular near-shore farms based on fresh/frozen fish diets composed mostly of Sardinella sp. Despite the encouraging results achieved in the promotion of sustainable cobia farming, we advocate the replacement of fresh/frozen fish by a practical formulated feed. This experiment evaluated the zootechnical performance and environmental efficiency of moist and practical formulated feeds in early grow-out phases in the cycle of cobia nearshore cage culture. Four hundred and twenty juvenile cobia (151 ± 7 g) were fed with moist feed and practical formulated feed for 56 days....

Feeding rate and feeding frequency affect growth performance of common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) juveniles reared in the laboratory R. Bras. Zootec.
Oliveira,Ricardo Luís Mendes de; Santos,Leilane Bruna Gomes dos; Silva Neto,Nelson Gomes da; Silva,Scarlatt Paloma Alves da; Silva,Felipe dos Santos; Melatti,Enrique; Cavalli,Ronaldo Olivera.
ABSTRACT The effects of feeding rate and feeding frequency on the growth of laboratory-reared common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) were evaluated. Juveniles with mean±SD weight of 2.55±0.48 g and total length of 6.81±0.48 cm were divided into groups of 20 fish and reared in 30 polyethylene tanks of 50 L for 60 days. The experimental design was a 3 × 3 factorial with three feeding frequencies (F2, F4, and F6: two, four, and six daily meals, respectively), three feeding rates (R1, R2.5, and R4: 1.0, 2.5, and 4.0%/day of fish biomass, respectively), and three replicates, totaling nine treatments (F2R1, F2R2.5, F2R4; F4R1, F4R2.5, F4R4; F6R1, F6R2.5, and F6R4). The external control consisted of four meals a day offered to apparent satiety (F4S). Every 15...

Impact de la salmoniculture marine sur l'environnement en rade de Cherbourg (1993-1995) 2. étude biosédimentaire ArchiMer
Kempf, Marc; Cadour, Gwenael; Jeanneret, Hélène; Mear, Yan; Miramand, Pierre; Merceron, Michel.
This document is a result of an environmental impact study carried out between 1993 and 1995 on the site of a marine trout culture located in the Harbour of Cherbourg, France. It deals with the solid waste of the farm and concems deposition rate, sediment analysis and chemistry (fine fraction < 63 ~m, organic matter, carbon, nitrogen, copper and zinc), bottom living organisms and underwater video monitoring. The impact observed is very moderate and localised. This is mainly due to the strong d)'TIamics and flushing rate of the site. A seperate volume of the same study deals with dissolved waste and concems the water mass (volume 1 : water and pelagos). (Not controlled OCR)

Pisciculture marine. Elements de prospective ArchiMer
Gerard, Andre.
Introduction: To develop its 2005-2009 strategic plan, IFREMER made two prospective analysis studies in 2003: a thematic prospective analysis and a sectorial prospective analysis. The "aquafarming" sectorial prospective analysis, based primarily on an IFREMER idea, particularly brought to light the difference in nature of problems posed by the future evolution of shellfish farming, fish farming and other stockbreeding (pearl farming and shrimp farming). In addition, the prospective analyses made on an international scale by the FAO (2002, 2004) and the IFPRI (2003) emphasise that the development of aqua farming is the required condition for satisfying world demand of consumer aquatic products, given the foreseeable weak growth, indeed, the stagnation of...

Regional Schemes for the Development of Marine Aquaculture (SRDAM) and Access to New Farming Sites on the French Mediterranean Coast ArchiMer
Mariojouls, Catherine; Girard, Sophie.
In France, the absence of further development of marine fish farming over the last 20 years has been attributed to regulatory constraints, and to the difficult access to new farming sites, due to high competition between different uses in the coastal zone, and to the shortcomings of governance in these areas. The regional schemes for the development of marine aquaculture (SRDAM) were introduced by the French Law on modernization of agriculture and fisheries (LMAP, July 27, 2010). The goals of SRDAMs are to make an inventory of existing aquaculture sites and to identify potential sites suitable for aquaculture, and to conciliate the development of marine aquaculture with other coastal activities. They are expected to allow access to new fish farming sites....

Short-term storage of lebranche mullet Mugil liza (Valenciennes, 1836) semen in natura and diluted with CF-HBSS Animal Sciences
Magnotti, Caio Cesar França; Castro, Jorgélia de Jesus Pinto; Pedrotti, Fabiola Santiago; Sterzelecki, Fábio Carneiro; Sanches, Eduardo Gomes; Cerqueira, Vinicius Ronzani.
The present study aimed to evaluate the activation characteristics of the lebranche mullet spermatozoa in natura and diluted with CF-HBSS for 96h at 4±2°C. The semen was collected from eight wild fish in Florianópolis – SC (Brazil) (27°S) in May, during reproductive migration. Three pools of semen were divided into two treatments: in natura and diluted with CF-HBSS 1:3. The semen was activated with seawater (salinity of 34, pH 8.7 and 4±2°C) to determine: motility time, motility rate and sperm cell membrane integrity. Dilution with CF-HBSS 1:3 increased motility time of diluted semen (15-20% for 6, 12 and 18h). Motility rate was equal to fresh semen for up to 24h of refrigeration and it was 30% higher than in natura semen at 12, 18 and 24h. Cell membrane...
