Abstract The study of metabolomics requires extracting as many metabolites as possible from a biological sample. This study aimed to determine the optimal method for the extraction of metabolites from solid-state fermented cottonseed meal (FCSM). The UPLC-Q-TOF-MS global metabolomics technology was used to detect the metabolites in FCSM, and the extraction quantity and extraction efficiency of seven different extraction methods, specifically the WA, 50MeOH, 50MeOHB, 50MeCNB, 80MeOHB, 80MeOH and AMF methods were evaluated. The results showed that the number of VIP metabolites extracted by AMF method are 196 and 184 in ESI+ and ESI- mode respectively, it is the largest number of all exacted methods; and the AMF methods also provided a higher extraction... |

Marine microalgae and cyanobacteria have largely been studied for their biotechnological potential and proved their ability to produce a wide array of bioactive molecules. We investigated the antifouling potential of unexplored benthic tropical microalgae using anti-adhesion and toxicity bioassays against two major micro- and ma crobiofoulers, namely bacteria and barnacles. Fifty strains belonging to six phyla [Cyanobacteria, Miozoa (Dinoflagellata), Bacillariophyta, Cryptophyta, Rhodophyta and Haptophyta] were isolated from southwestern Islands of the Indian Ocean. They were chosen in order to represent as much as possible the huge biodiversity of such a rich tropical ecosystem. The associated chemodiversity was highlighted by both NMR- and LC-MS-based... |

A first insight on the interactions between bacteria isolated from monospecific cultures of the marine diatom Haslea ostrearia and this microalgae is described in this work. From 28 bacterial isolates, the maximal growth rate and the maximal cell concentration were on average 58% and 27% higher (max. 67% for isolate B22). Isolates B5, B10 (both Saccharospirillum sp.) and B22 (Rhodobacter sp.) were the most efficient. The geographical origin of H. ostrearia from which bacteria were isolated had no impact on the algal growth performances, and a given bacterial isolate led to the same algal growth irrespective of the geographical origin of H. ostrearia. To explain the results obtained, a comprehensive integrative strategy was conducted that analyzed the... |

ABSTRACT Altered metabolites level in the biosystems, is the potential cause of cancer, the primary reason of alteration of metabolism is change in nutrient consumption and waste excretion, as a result genetic mutation leads to cancer initiation and progression. Aberration of specific metabolites such as fumarate, succinate, 2-hydroxyglutarate may alter cell signaling. We collected liver and kidney samples and prepared for 1H NMR analysis, then executed NMR spectroscopy. We used a set of domestic R scripts to perform an unsupervised principal component analysis (PCA) and a supervised orthogonal signal correction partial least-squares discriminant analysis (OSC-PLS-DA). It signifies class discrimination for getting a clear separation, whereas PCA scores... |

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the main cause of disability worldwide, due to progressive articular cartilage loss and degeneration. According to recent research, OA is more than just a degenerative disease due to some metabolic components associated to its pathogenesis. However, no biomarker has been identified to detect this disease at early stages or to track its development. Metabolomics is an emerging field and has the potential to detect many metabolites in a single spectrum using high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques or mass spectrometry (MS). NMR is a reproducible and reliable non-destructive analytical method. On the other hand, MS has a lower detection limit and is more destructive, but it is more sensitive. NMR and MS are useful... |

Mimachlamys varia is a sub-littoral bivalve encountered from Norway to the Mediterranean Sea, which lives mostly byssally attached to rocks. During the low tide period, M. varia individuals, located highest on the shore, may experience short time of aerial exposure and face a low availability of oxygen. Here we report a comparative metabolomic profiling of gill samples of M. varia obtained by both LC-QToF and APGC-QToF mass spectrometry, to analyze metabolic changes occurring during emersion in comparison with immersion. Scallops were grown in aquaria with a simulated intertidal environment mimicking short-duration air exposure that they might experience during extreme tides: alternating 2 h emersion and 10 h immersion. Our results show a switch from... |

Cyanobacterial proliferation is one of the most harmful hazards, in both freshwater and marine ecosystems. Cyanobacteria are well known for their ability to produce a wide variety of bioactive compounds, some of which have been described as allelochemicals. There is growing evidence that these secondary metabolites play an important role in shaping community composition through biotic interactions; however, for the most part, their biological role and mode of regulation of the production are poorly understood. In temperate eutrophic freshwaters, Microcystis and Planktothrix often co-occur, with Planktothrix being an early colonizer and Microcystis appearing subsequently. By integrating LC-MS/MS molecular networking and an innovative experimental design, we... |
