| A Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) produz uma grande quantidade de dados como resultado das pesquisa que realiza. Os dados gerados abrangem diferentes domínios: solos, clima, coleções, dados de animais, dados bibliográficos, entre outros. Muitas vezes os projetos trocam ou reúsam a informação produzidas. Apesar disso, muitos deles ainda são armazenados de diferentes formas e usando diferentes formatos, como planilhas, sistemas de banco de dados, papel, entre outros. | In this paper, we discuss how we are using metadata schemas and controlled vocabularies to improve interoperability between Brazilian agriculture and livestock trading data providers. A new metadata schema is being created based on a community-based approach. This method relies on knowledge from specialists to define a list of relevant metadata properties for a given domain. | After a brief reminder on general concepts used in data cataloguing activities, this chapter provides information concerning the architecture and design recommendations for the implementation of catalogue systems for the ENVRIplus community. The main objective of this catalogue is to offer a unified discovery service allowing cross-disciplinary search and access to data collections coming from Research Infrastructures (RIs). A geoinformação é essencial para o planejamento e monitoramento das atividades agropecuárias, justificando o emprego de esforços para reuni-la e padronizá-la de acordo com as diretrizes governamentais e possibiltando sua disponibilização à sociedade em geral. O objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar a experiência da Embrapa em construir sua Infraestrutura de Dados Espaciais, denominada GeoInfo, uma iniciativa para organizar, preservar, documentar e ofertar dados geoespaciais abertos produzidos nas pesquisas da empresa, ampliando o potencial de aplicação dessa informação na produção e difusão de conhecimento e inovação. | Este artigo aborda a necessidade de adoção de padrões de descrição de recursos de informação eletrônica, particularmente no âmbito da Embrapa Informática Agropecuária. O Rural Mídia foi desenvolvido utilizando o modelo Dublin Core (DC) para descrição de seu acervo, acrescido de pequenas adaptações introduzidas diante da necessidade de adequar-se a especificidades meramente institucionais. Este modelo de metadados baseado no Dublin Cores, adaptado para o Banco de Imagem, possui características que endossam sua adoção, como a simplicidade na descrição dos recursos, entendimento semântico universal (dos elementos), escopo internacional e extensibilidade (o que permite sua adaptação às necessidades adicionais de descrição). |

| The STERNA project mainly focuses on enrichment of existing content of content holding organisations in the natural history domain. Therefore, developing a methodology on how to best integrate one’s content into the STERNA information space is an essential part of the project.
