Industrial and urban organic wastes increase soil microbial activity and biomass Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Boechat,Cácio Luiz; Santos,Jorge Antonio Gonzaga; Accioly,Adriana Maria de Aguiar; Bomfim,Marcela Rebouças; Santos,Adailton Conceição dos.
Microbial processes have been used as indicators of soil quality, due to the high sensitivity to small changes in management to evaluate, e.g., the impact of applying organic residues to the soil. In an experiment in a completely randomized factorial design 6 x 13 + 4, (pot without soil and residue or absolute control) the effect of following organic wastes was evaluated: pulp mill sludge, petrochemical complex sludge, municipal sewage sludge, dairy factory sewage sludge, waste from pulp industry and control (soil without organic waste) after 2, 4, 6, 12, 14, 20, 28, 36, 44, 60, 74, 86, and 98 days of incubation on some soil microbial properties, with four replications. The soil microbial activity was highly sensitive to the carbon/nitrogen ratio of the...

Intake and digestibility in cattle under grazing supplemented with nitrogenous compounds during dry season R. Bras. Zootec.
Figueiras,Janderson Florencio; Detmann,Edenio; Paulino,Mário Fonseca; Valente,Tiago Neves Pereira; Valadares Filho,Sebastião de Campos; Lazzarini,Isis.
The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of supplementation with nitrogenous compounds on intake and digestibility in cattle under grazing during dry season. It was used five Holstein × Zebu steers with average initial live weight of 236 kg, kept in five Brachiaria decumbens Stapf. paddocks (0.34 ha). The experiment was carried out according to a 5 × 5 Latin square design, with five supplementation levels and five experimental periods. The supplementation levels were the following: 0; 0.35; 0.70; 1.05, and 1.40 g of crude protein/kg live weight. A mixture of urea, ammonium sulfate and albumin (4.5:0.5:1.0, respectively) was used as nitrogen supplement. The average crude protein levels in the diet were 7.39; 8.92; 10.98; 12.55; and 13.62%, as...

Simulation and validation of the ruminal digestion of carbohydrates in cattle from kinetic parameters obtained by in vitro gas production technique R. Bras. Zootec.
Silva Cabral,Luciano da; Campos Valadares Filho,Sebastião de; Detmann,Edenio; Zervoudakis,Joanis Tilemahos; Galati,Rosemary Lais; Paula Sousa,Daniel de; Souza,Alexandre Lima de.
This study aimed to validate the estimates of the ruminal degradation of total carbohydrates (TC), ruminal and total digestion of fibrous carbohydrates (FC) and microbial nitrogen flow in the abomasum evaluated by in vitro gas production technique (IVGP). Six ruminally and abomasally cannulated steers arranged in a double 3 × 3 latin square were used to measure described parameters with indigestible neutral detergent fiber (INDF) utilization as marker. Total and fibrous carbohydrates degraded in the rumen were estimated through digestion rates obtained for fibrous (FC) and non fibrous carbohydrates (NFC) using in vitro gas production technique, corrected for its respective ruminal and postruminal passage rates. The estimation of the total digestion of FC...
